Hello all!
I am saving to purchase a low end gaming laptop. I realize that, given my targeted budget, I'll have to make some compromises. However, even making those compromises, there is one glaring problem that it seems that all Renoir laptops are currently facing:. None of the vendors seem interested in giving them a decent screen!
So, here is my question:. Are there any Renoir models out there that, while having very poor screens, are largely up to par in most other categories AND have an equivalent Intel model that has a very good screen that can be purchased as a spare part and swapped into the Renoir laptop as an upgrade?
I'm not scared of this process, having replaced many laptop screens in the past and even having upgraded a few to higher refresh/resolution ones for friends and family.
As for the laptop that I'm currently looking to purchase, I'm quite interested in the new Acer Nitro 5 with the 4600h and 1650. Yes, I am well aware of the build quality issues with the Nitros, and that the 1650 isn't exactly a great video card. This is going to be my road laptop for when I travel for work. It's going to live in a padded pelican case in my car, only coming out in my hotel room. I'm not going to invest a lot of money into it in case it gets stolen or damaged, and at $669, it's not a bad value. I'm not overly concerned in the screen for it as it'll likely spend most of it's time plugged into the hotel TV for gaming and on a desk in low light for productivity tasks. What attracts me to it the most is the storage layout that early leaks indicate that it has: 2 x M.2 nvme that can be set to RAID 0 and a 2.5" cage for a data drive. This means that, if I decide to, I can vastly increase it's storage capacity and performance. It would be ideal in my book if they offered a version with a 4800h and a 1660 6gb as I could see that lasting a lot longer for gaming.
