TLNR - best thing for aiding beer drinking possibly ever. It retails for $169 and makes beer better. I'd buy it @ 3x the price if that's how much it cost.
I broke it open last night, but I forgot my camera so no pics. I will drink more beer tonight and make sure I have my camera so I can get some shots in. This was a Kickstarter project that made it to see the light of day. And actually delivers fully on what the initial claims were. Here's the official tagline thingy.
YOUR FAVORITE BEER ON TAP. ANYTIME, ANYWHERE.
THE FIRST EVER PORTABLE DRAFT BEER SYSTEM THAT
IMPROVES THE FLAVOR AND TASTE OF ANY CAN, BOTTLE,
OR GROWLER OF BEER TO BREWERY FRESH.
Hummmm sounds gimmicky, this was on Kickstarter too? MEH! Now here's their spiel on it.
FIZZICS™ IS A REVOLUTIONARY BEER SYSTEM
Our pursuit for great tasting beer ironically began over a draft beer at our favorite brewpub. While enjoying a fresh pour right from the brewers tap, I asked Dave a simple question, that unknowingly would start us off on an incredible journey, ‘why does beer taste so good fresh from the brewers tap, but doesn’t taste nearly as good from a can, bottle or growler?’ And so it began. Our first year of exploration was a relentless pursuit of understanding, research and development, with more failures than one can count. But, our passion and determination grew stronger, and eventually, we perfected the Fizzics™ Technology Platform.
The Fizzics™ Technology Platform dramatically improves the flavor, taste and mouth-feel of any carbonated beer, to a level that surpassed our greatest expectations – A Fizzics™ Beer is truly a new experience and we are thrilled to share this innovation with beer lovers across the world.
I drink a lot of beer, to say I love beer would be an understatement. I run a craft beer store and am Cicerone Level 2 certified. While I have a good knowledge of beer, I'm very far from knowing what I'd consider a lot, I have a long way to go. Maybe in 20 years I can reach Cicerone Level 4 - if I'm still alive from all the beer I drink that is lol. Anywho, when I saw this I was intrigued and wanted to try it, after it finally came out and I saw a few reviews. I knew I had to have it. Target & Best Buy sell it so that was a big plus - at the same price as online too. All that's required to operate it are 2 things. Beer + 4 AA batteries. No proprietary cartridges, nothing that needs to be refilled or replaced, well except the batteries. And not special beer, any beer in a bottle or can, any size up to a 64oz growler. And it's so simple even I managed to use it properly the 1st time. There's a ton of science-techie shit behind it. But basically it uses sound waves to break down the carbonation to change the beers flavor, give it a super fine, long lasting creamy like head and a much richer mouth feel. They're pushing this as making bottled beer draft quality, but imho it's a bit beyond that. It gives beers a similar to nitro infused quality. I know nitro is still draft, but to me it's a step up from basic draft. If you drink beer and haven't had one on Nitro, go to Yard House if you have one near you. FANTASTIC! Well, not all styles of beer are better on nitrogen, IMHO anywho.
When you pour a beer normally, you get a thin head with big bubbles that usually dissipates very quick. With this you get this fantastically creamy head with loads of tiny bubbles. And it stays in your glass for a good 4 to 5 minutes. I only had 1 beer last night to test it with, didn't realize it was past 2AM, so I couldn't go get more. For tonight I got a Samuel Smith Nutty Brown Ale & their Organic Chocolate Stout. Both should be excellent for this treatment. Last night, I had a 40oz of Mickies, yes dreaded malt liquor. But it's one of my go to's when I don't want to drink something fancy. I've drank hundreds of bottles of Mickies in my life, and if you gave me one poured from the Fizzics system without telling me. I wouldn't have known what the fuck I was drinking. It was definitely similar in some aspects. But every characteristic I was use to was different. I couldn't believe it was the same beer. And that was with a dirt cheap malt liquor. It was a lot smoother, tasted different, and was just better. Very impressive. I gave a glass to my friend who loves Mickies. She watched me put the bottle in the machine and pour her glass. And I was told "this isn't Mickies! what beer is this?" She thought I was somehow tricking her. I can't wait to try a Karl Strauss Red Trolley or Yeti Barrel Aged Chocolate Stout. Or for that matter any beer. Just to see, I will try a few of the beers I loathe. Coors, Bud & Miller come to mind. No amount of science could make a machine that'll make me want to drink any of those, but I'm curious how much it can improve shit.
To clean it all you do run a glass with warm water thru it. Not sure how long the batteries last. But, since I'll be using this probably 5-6 times a week I'll be buying an 8 pack of Eneloop + a charger. The chamber's pressurized and it's insulated so it'll keep a beer colder longer, which is useful if you throw a growler in it.
This is the fucking coolest thing I've bought in a long time, maybe ever. @ $169 it's a steal, I'd literally have zero problems if it was $499, it's that fucking sweet. Now all I have to do is see is how it tastes with every beer I can track down. Oh, and see how long it'll hold up. New company + new product + Kickstarter kind of worries me. But if I get 6 months out of this and have to buy another I wouldn't be too mad.
Will post some pics tonight, and am about to go shopping so I can fill my mini fridge with beer.
