TLNR - best thing for aiding beer drinking possibly ever. It retails for $169 and makes beer better. I'd buy it @ 3x the price if that's how much it cost.

I broke it open last night, but I forgot my camera so no pics. I will drink more beer tonight and make sure I have my camera so I can get some shots in. This was a Kickstarter project that made it to see the light of day. And actually delivers fully on what the initial claims were. Here's the official tagline thingy.

YOUR FAVORITE BEER ON TAP. ANYTIME, ANYWHERE.
THE FIRST EVER PORTABLE DRAFT BEER SYSTEM THAT
IMPROVES THE FLAVOR AND TASTE OF ANY CAN, BOTTLE,
OR GROWLER OF BEER TO BREWERY FRESH.

Hummmm sounds gimmicky, this was on Kickstarter too? MEH! Now here's their spiel on it.

FIZZICS™ IS A REVOLUTIONARY BEER SYSTEM

Our pursuit for great tasting beer ironically began over a draft beer at our favorite brewpub. While enjoying a fresh pour right from the brewers tap, I asked Dave a simple question, that unknowingly would start us off on an incredible journey, ‘why does beer taste so good fresh from the brewers tap, but doesn’t taste nearly as good from a can, bottle or growler?’ And so it began. Our first year of exploration was a relentless pursuit of understanding, research and development, with more failures than one can count. But, our passion and determination grew stronger, and eventually, we perfected the Fizzics™ Technology Platform.

The Fizzics™ Technology Platform dramatically improves the flavor, taste and mouth-feel of any carbonated beer, to a level that surpassed our greatest expectations – A Fizzics™ Beer is truly a new experience and we are thrilled to share this innovation with beer lovers across the world.

I drink a lot of beer, to say I love beer would be an understatement. I run a craft beer store and am Cicerone Level 2 certified. While I have a good knowledge of beer, I'm very far from knowing what I'd consider a lot, I have a long way to go. Maybe in 20 years I can reach Cicerone Level 4 - if I'm still alive from all the beer I drink that is lol. Anywho, when I saw this I was intrigued and wanted to try it, after it finally came out and I saw a few reviews. I knew I had to have it. Target & Best Buy sell it so that was a big plus - at the same price as online too. All that's required to operate it are 2 things. Beer + 4 AA batteries. No proprietary cartridges, nothing that needs to be refilled or replaced, well except the batteries. And not special beer, any beer in a bottle or can, any size up to a 64oz growler. And it's so simple even I managed to use it properly the 1st time. There's a ton of science-techie shit behind it. But basically it uses sound waves to break down the carbonation to change the beers flavor, give it a super fine, long lasting creamy like head and a much richer mouth feel. They're pushing this as making bottled beer draft quality, but imho it's a bit beyond that. It gives beers a similar to nitro infused quality. I know nitro is still draft, but to me it's a step up from basic draft. If you drink beer and haven't had one on Nitro, go to Yard House if you have one near you. FANTASTIC! Well, not all styles of beer are better on nitrogen, IMHO anywho.

When you pour a beer normally, you get a thin head with big bubbles that usually dissipates very quick. With this you get this fantastically creamy head with loads of tiny bubbles. And it stays in your glass for a good 4 to 5 minutes. I only had 1 beer last night to test it with, didn't realize it was past 2AM, so I couldn't go get more. For tonight I got a Samuel Smith Nutty Brown Ale & their Organic Chocolate Stout. Both should be excellent for this treatment. Last night, I had a 40oz of Mickies, yes dreaded malt liquor. But it's one of my go to's when I don't want to drink something fancy. I've drank hundreds of bottles of Mickies in my life, and if you gave me one poured from the Fizzics system without telling me. I wouldn't have known what the fuck I was drinking. It was definitely similar in some aspects. But every characteristic I was use to was different. I couldn't believe it was the same beer. And that was with a dirt cheap malt liquor. It was a lot smoother, tasted different, and was just better. Very impressive. I gave a glass to my friend who loves Mickies. She watched me put the bottle in the machine and pour her glass. And I was told "this isn't Mickies! what beer is this?" She thought I was somehow tricking her. I can't wait to try a Karl Strauss Red Trolley or Yeti Barrel Aged Chocolate Stout. Or for that matter any beer. Just to see, I will try a few of the beers I loathe. Coors, Bud & Miller come to mind. No amount of science could make a machine that'll make me want to drink any of those, but I'm curious how much it can improve shit.

To clean it all you do run a glass with warm water thru it. Not sure how long the batteries last. But, since I'll be using this probably 5-6 times a week I'll be buying an 8 pack of Eneloop + a charger. The chamber's pressurized and it's insulated so it'll keep a beer colder longer, which is useful if you throw a growler in it.

This is the fucking coolest thing I've bought in a long time, maybe ever. @ $169 it's a steal, I'd literally have zero problems if it was $499, it's that fucking sweet. Now all I have to do is see is how it tastes with every beer I can track down. Oh, and see how long it'll hold up. New company + new product + Kickstarter kind of worries me. But if I get 6 months out of this and have to buy another I wouldn't be too mad.

Will post some pics tonight, and am about to go shopping so I can fill my mini fridge with beer.

This looks pretty neat. Main problem I have is the video on the site shows the guy loading up his Fizzics system with a Budweiser (America!). Come on man!

I'd agree that it's not a great look for people who are into beers, but ignore the video. This thing is like beyond words fantastic. I strongly dislike Bud, haven't had one in years. And the last one I had was a neighbor being "friendly" when I was over hanging out one night. I will try a Bud in it, just for the sake of seeing how well it works with shit beer. If it can improve the taste of a Bud, a beer I'll still find undrinkable. Just an improvement would be saying a lot.

The market for this isn't Bubba who drinks Natty Light, price aside I don't think people like that even care about flavor and texture much when they're drinking lol. This is definitely for the craft beer crowd. Shit, for the sake of science I might break down and see what it can do for a Natty Daddy. A beer I have never bought. Still refuse to buy it, but I'm sure I can find a redneck around here who has a rack of it and can spare a single can lol.

Instead of batteries, couldn't you wire up a wallwart, or something? I hate batteries in items that aren't specifically made for portability.

Between that and some of the info on their site, I feel this is to beer what Bose is to audio.

this makes no sense....the difference between draught and bottles and cans is about the storage and transportation of the beer.

If you are opening bottles and cans and transferring that through a processor, you are still drinking canned and bottled beer. Or is this some sort of nitro-infusing doohicky?

when you say creamy and foamy, that sounds like a nitro injector, which would be different. That is also pretty common these days at good beer pubs.

Without reading all the docs, and only glancing over the site, I'm assuming it uses some kind of aerator to change the carbonation profile. I can see how that would affect taste and mouthfeel.

The OP needs to get his schizophrenia under control. First there's the addiction to bad fast food then there's going from Samuel Smiths (one of the greatest breweries on the planet) to Mickies 40's. It's really hard to seriously consider opinions from a demonstrable whack job.

actually, I think that is pretty legit. If you can improve the palatability of something like Yunegling--make it creamier, the taste isn't all that bad--it makes the beer-drinking "hobby" far cheaper.

:hmm:

If you've ever drank some beer before it was carbonated you would know that once a beer is carbonated the flavors change a bit from the non-carbonated form, and it's a one way transition. If you uncarbonate a carbonated beer it will not taste like the never carbonated version of the beer.

Brewers know this and recipes are built around knowing that your beer is going to be carbonated.

sound waves to break down the carbonation to change the beers flavor

Translation: we force the CO2 out of solution to carry with it all the volatile flavor compounds so that when you pour and drink the beer you smell more of it and perceive a better/stronger taste. I bet if you take a beer poured from this thing it will go flat/taste bad at a much faster rate then if you had simply poured the beer from the bottle to begin with. It is probably great for the first few sips when you really get all the aromas, but if all the CO2 is gone from the actual beer that beer is going downhill real fast.

This thing is really just a gimmick if you ask me. Anybody that has been trained in any sort of sensory/olfactory testing can tell you that swirling the beer around in your glass to bubble out the CO2 will change the flavors in ways to make it easier to detect flavors.

You don't need a fancy device to do this.

This doesn't make the beer go flat faster though, I just ran a bottle of Ommegang's Game Of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms thru it. Used a small flute glass and stayed pretty consistent until the last sip. Once the he The Organic Chocolate Stout I drank last night was richer tasting and kept a very full creamy head until I finished it. It did die down a lot, but there was still about a quarter fingers worth as I was taking the last sip. I would liken the effects to a less pronounced Nitro beer from a pub. I drink a lot of Nitro stuff and it definitely changes the profile of the beer a lot. The Fizzics gives results along those lines. Is it as good? Nope, I'd dub it Nitrogen'esk light, but it's made every beer I've put in it better.

watch the video and see how the head looks and lingers.

There is a cheap one of these on ebay right now if anyone is interested and doesn't want to pay full price for one. I think this is pretty interesting, but not interesting enough for me to have another appliance sitting on the counter, I don't drink beer enough to justify something like this.

Once the head was gone it did change up, but the head lasted a good 6 minutes. Where with a straight pour I'd have gotten maybe 45 seconds before the head was mostly dissipated. I've drank thousands of different beers, maybe 45 in the past month alone. To pass the Cicerone level 2 test you have to have very spot on taste buds when it comes to tasting beer. Sure sounds like $17 worth of engineering, $3 worth of parts and $149 worth of hipster cachet to me. $169 buys an awful lot of top shelf beer.

My personal method-first beer I pick for flavor, after that it progresses towards swill.

Just used it on a Cali Creamin' Vanilla Cream Ale from Mothers Earth, was close to when I have it on Nitro at Yard House. Going to load it up with a Delirium Tremens later tonight. If anyone who's not a member here that's finding this thread from Googling. Remember I'm the only person in this thread who's actually used one. Don't just take my word for it, but definitely don't automatically listen to everyone writing it off. I've had about a dozen different beers in it over the past 3 days and it's beyond words.

Dude! Really?

That's just wrong.

Really? why? It made a great beer taste even better. I'm traveling back and revisiting beers I love with the Fizzics, and it's like I'm drinking them for the 1st time all over again. It's not adding anything to beer, what I drank was still Tremens, just enhanced. It makes can or bottled beer taste similar to tap, beer on tap is always better imho. After work today I'm picking 2 more of these up for beer drinking friends.

This is one of the greatest things I've ever owned.
