LOL, kid was probably a n00b and didn't know any better. Stingy CUSA managers probably had them stashed away in the back so they didn't lose any money.Originally posted by: fade2black
Went to CompUSA/GoodGuys store at Hillsdale Mall, San Mateo (SF Bay Area).
They did not have a single copy and refused to issue a raincheck.
They did a search on the computer and said Hayward and East Palo Alto might have it.
Went to E.Palo Alto store, did not have a single copy (they have the collectors edition for 39.99 though).
A kid in the store (trainee employee) searched for half an hour .. he first got me HL1 and I said thats not it, then he got me the collectors edition, and I said that's not it.
He finally went into the warehouse and managed to get me HL2! Thank god for the Asian kid.. he was the *only* guy in the store who seemed to be doing something, the rest of the staff were pretty much walking around like the aimless zombies in HL unwilling to exert their butts in any way for the customers.
The billing clerk was surprised and he said 'hey where did u get this?' I think the employees are snagging all the copies.
The SKU for HL (not the collectors edition) is 293507. It should be $19.99 at CUSA this week.
Make the bastiches sweat. If you cannot find it in store, ask them to issue a raincheck. If no raincheck ask them to search for inventory in the closeby stores.
Worst case, grab the flyer at the store entrance and price match with Circuit City/BB.
Good luck.

FYI, there is an even better deal found by someone else. It might be a pricemistake, in fact it prolly is so YMMV as always. But here, CrapUSA circular has the COLLECTORS EDITION listed for $19.99 as well. Many people have been successful PMing at CC and bestbuy already. A $79 value for $19.99. Good luck

PS: If Pming at Worstbuy, make sure you buy first, then walk back into store to PM. They dont (because they are nazis) pm the extra 10% unless it was a previous purchase. Not that 10% on this deal matters anwayys, but hey.

Circuit City in Irvine Marketplace is fvcked up.
I went there, got a copy of HL2 (regular edition) but with the girl on the cover. Went up to the register, asked for a PM. Clerk at the counter said he couldn't PM it cuz the box cover didn't match with the guy box cover in the CUSA ad.
I told him to talk to the manager and after a few minutes he just gave me the same story. I guess they just don't want my business? Had to drive over to CUSA and got the game from them.

Don't you guys think Valve really cheaped out by putting 5 CDs in paper covers in the box. There is no booklet, game guide, CD cover or anything.
Ok the game is great, but imagine coming home with a $55 purchase (MSRP) and finding a bunch of CDs in a cardboard box. A plastic CD case with a booklet isn't asking for too much.

yeah i don't know whats wrong with that place. i went there without the ad and they called compusa to confirm the deal. eventhough i got the pm for 16.99 i still believe that the irvine CC is the worst in OC. btw, it took like fifteen minutes for the CSR to find the phone number to the CompUSa right across the street. lol

Weird when I click on that link it pops up a window and tries to load for a bit then it just closes.
Youre right, it looks like they changed something(Prolly fixed the price). Just go to the website and find the deals of the week thing.

See? If high profile games (HL2 for example) were like $20's a game? The piracy problem would be solved! I'm not saying it's going to stop, but it would probably be in low numbers since the game is only $20.
