WTH, 5 CDs, is there a reason they could not have put this on a DVD? I hate first of all having to keep up with multiple discs, second of all, they didnt give me plastic case to keep them in good condition.

FYI, there is an even better deal found by someone else. It might be a pricemistake, in fact it prolly is so YMMV as always. But here, CrapUSA circular has the COLLECTORS EDITION listed for $19.99 as well. Many people have been successful PMing at CC and bestbuy already. A $79 value for $19.99. Good luck

PS: If Pming at Worstbuy, make sure you buy first, then walk back into store to PM. They dont (because they are nazis) pm the extra 10% unless it was a previous purchase. Not that 10% on this deal matters anwayys, but hey.

They did that because they wanted you to spend an extra $20+ on the Collector's Edition which comes on DVD, and has a plastic jewel case.

Went to E.Palo Alto store, did not have a single copy (they have the collectors edition for 39.99 though).

A kid in the store (trainee employee) searched for half an hour .. he first got me HL1 and I said thats not it, then he got me the collectors edition, and I said that's not it.

He finally went into the warehouse and managed to get me HL2! Thank god for the Asian kid.. he was the *only* guy in the store who seemed to be doing something, the rest of the staff were pretty much walking around like the aimless zombies in HL unwilling to exert their butts in any way for the customers.

The billing clerk was surprised and he said 'hey where did u get this?' I think the employees are snagging all the copies.

The SKU for HL (not the collectors edition) is 293507. It should be $19.99 at CUSA this week.

Make the bastiches sweat. If you cannot find it in store, ask them to issue a raincheck. If no raincheck ask them to search for inventory in the closeby stores.

Worst case, grab the flyer at the store entrance and price match with Circuit City/BB.

Good luck.

LOL, kid was probably a n00b and didn't know any better. Stingy CUSA managers probably had them stashed away in the back so they didn't lose any money.

Its not a price mistake, you have to read the small print, ad states that collectors editions is 39.99 after instant savings, but definetly a YMMV depending on who's price matching for you. Can anyone confirm their success???

Nice deal. I tried to get this for $30 at Fry's (advertised special 2 or 3 months ago), and they said they were "out of stock" of the game that matched the SKU in the ad - and there is no SKU that matches the ad. The picture in the ad matched the regular box exactly. Fry's tried to pull a similar scam on an HDTV Wonder that they advertised for $99 a month ago (I rainchecked it). I kept calling and they kept telling me it was OOS, call next Thursday. I happened to swing by the store for something else and walked over to check, and they had one in stock... even though I had called them about 2 or 3 hours earlier that day and they told me they didn't have any and wouldn't until the next week or later. Funny thing was, the store manager walked right by me after I picked up the box. I ripped into him pretty good, and the head of that department came over to see what was going on, and I ripped into him too. Those guys are crooks, and will do anything to not honor a good advertised price.

I accidentally tried to buy this deal two days ago at CompUSA after reading this post quickly... and not realizing it started today! CompUSA let me check the deal online in the store (BB and most stores won't let you do this in my experiences). Unfortunately, it was a long drive back, so today I picked it up at the nearby BB and did the pricematch. The stupid thing with them though, is that you have to buy it first and then walk over to the customer care area to get the extra 10% back - otherwise, if you mention the ad before you buy it, they will only match the price and not give you the 10% difference. Normally $40 at BB, so I got it after all that for about $18 plus tax.

This post is so long it is almost off topic now. Anways, bump for a good deal on this game.

Circuit City in Irvine Marketplace is fvcked up.

I went there, got a copy of HL2 (regular edition) but with the girl on the cover. Went up to the register, asked for a PM. Clerk at the counter said he couldn't PM it cuz the box cover didn't match with the guy box cover in the CUSA ad.

I told him to talk to the manager and after a few minutes he just gave me the same story. I guess they just don't want my business? Had to drive over to CUSA and got the game from them.

I'd have ripped the cover off the box and asked them if that solved their problem. But I'm a big guy so, meh.

Don't you guys think Valve really cheaped out by putting 5 CDs in paper covers in the box. There is no booklet, game guide, CD cover or anything.

Ok the game is great, but imagine coming home with a $55 purchase (MSRP) and finding a bunch of CDs in a cardboard box. A plastic CD case with a booklet isn't asking for too much.

Not really. I never care about the crap in the box anyways. Valve knows how popular their game is, they arnt gonna waste money when they know people will buy it just for the game anyways. Get the collectors for $19.99. That has extra crap if you want it.

yeah i don't know whats wrong with that place. i went there without the ad and they called compusa to confirm the deal. eventhough i got the pm for 16.99 i still believe that the irvine CC is the worst in OC. btw, it took like fifteen minutes for the CSR to find the phone number to the CompUSa right across the street. lol

Man they must be REAL idiots. The game packages themselves all contain the same UPC.

See? If high profile games (HL2 for example) were like $20's a game? The piracy problem would be solved! I'm not saying it's going to stop, but it would probably be in low numbers since the game is only $20.

Youre right, it looks like they changed something(Prolly fixed the price). Just go to the website and find the deals of the week thing.
