This definitely appears to be a regional deal because I checked the online circulars for the stores in Northern California and that laptop isn't offered for that price... it isn't offered at all. Blah... I hate living in California.

I'm pretty sure this deal is dead. I called about 20 stores, none have it in stock, and two general managers told me they looked up the item number (493146) and said is it NOT AVAILABLE at ANY staples store in the US anymore. She checked every state and said it was ALL zeros for quantity.

That's probably not true. I found them in stores and in stock here, but not at this price. I'd be able to get in on this deal if someone sent me a printed receipt or ad of some sort.

Not working in Fremont (Omaha), NE. I just called the store there and talked with Jim the manager. He looked up the SKU I gave him (493-146) and told me he didn't have any in stock. In fact, he told me that Staples was getting away from having HP laptops on hand and that the plan was to order directly from HP when a customer wanted an HP laptop. The only HP laptop he had in the store was a "zt" series (I don't remember the model he told me). Too bad, but I did get in on the ze1201 deal!!

OOS in central virginia (I didn't venture out . . . for fear of being sniped) but I called . . . but they can "order it for me for $1349.00 and get it to me in 7-14 business days." Oh and I also have an option for customizing it by store personel for additional money. Woohoo. :disgust:

Well, there are no stores in the Washington DC area that carry laptops anymore. They are ONLY special order, they don't stock them PERIOD. Bleh, this deal is dead in the DC Metro area...

I found one, one only, at my local Staples in Georgia. It was in the sale display cabinet and marked Clearance at $779. It was sealed. I asked if I decided not to keep it, could I return it without a stocking fee if it was not opened. They said sure. I also tried to look suprised after the clerk told me about the $100 rebate when he rang it up.

WOOHOO . . . earlier I said they were OOS in central Virginia . . . well I decided to call one more store (1.5 hours away . . . in Harrisonburg for those who know the area) and they had one IN STOCK at the CLEARANCE PRICE

I used the $50 off 500 from obesewallet and the $100 receipt printed just fine. ~$760 (with tax) before $100 rebate.

I'm gonna try to return and buy again from my local Staples on Sunday . . . I'll post my results. Even at $629 plus tax . . . this is a KILLER DEAL!!!

I saw this last nite at the staples in Knoxville, TN. Above it, was some old, ghetto lookin HP. I figured it was either a trashed open box, or a mistake. Didn't pursue it at all. Especially cause I've got an extra laptop right now as it is (and no money to buy the other).

Anyways, might be worth it for someone close to Knoxville, TN. Plus, yesterday was a big day. Got my 1201, and scored the WD SE for 79.99 PMd at CC.

I called three stores in my area and none of them carry laptops in the store. One did tell me that if I had a copy of the advertisement a5 $779 (he knew that such a thing existed), I could bring it in the store and they would place an order for me at that price. So now the question is, where exactly was this promotion published? I used several locations and couldn't find it in any of the in-store specials circulars at the Staples.com.
