CompUSA B&M has the GallantWEB GW500 Email Server on clearance for just $99.88 at the B&M stores only.

YMMV. I can tell you right now Chicago is dry, and I heard Indianapolis is too, and michigan may be as well. Probably better this way because I do not really have the cash for stuff like this right now

The server is comprised of:
- Celeron of at least 633MHz, maybe 900MHz
- Acorp 6elp FlexATX motherboard
- Cool case with 2-line LCD
- at least 2 NICs
- 64MB RAM
- 20GB HDD
- Red Hat Linux

Link to specs (PDF)

Thanx go to BTO who spotted this on http://www.linux-hacker.net

From linux-hacker:

Gallantweb server for $99 at CompUSA
Posted on Friday, January 24 @ 13:31:44 PST by codeman

Anonymous writes "I noticed the CompUSA near my house (Arlington, Texas) has Gallantweb GW500 servers for 99$ They are marked clearance but are still selling for about 600$ online. Mine had a Celeron 900, 64mb ram ,20GB HD and 3 network ports (2 of which are pci cards). Inside is an Acorp 6elp FlexATX motherboard and it runs Redhat 6.2. Worth the parts at least but the onboard video and sound make it a worthwhile project system"

SKU (be-doo-be-doo): 289486

OOS
, however at all my area stores: Franklin Mills, Pa. (Phila); King of Prussia, Pa.; Montgomeryville, Pa; Wilmington, DE; and Edison, NJ.

Happy hunting, my fearless fellow ferengi.

Edit: OOS in Montgomeryville because some really cool dude named Dave Perkins snagged the last two.

Are you sure about that SKU? I tried using their automated system to check pricing and availability and they don't recognize that number....

lots of obscure clearance stuff wont be found online in their inventory search.. you have to call the individual stores and check
availability..

Thanks for the tip! i can verify that 289486 is indeed the correct SKU. I picked up one of these a few minutes ago at the CompUSA across the street from our office. The manager had to get it out of the lockup in the IT business section so you most likely have to ask for this item by SKU at your local CompUSA. I also had him check several other stores. On the East coast at least, most stores have one or more of these stock. The description from the receipt is as follows...

289486 GALLA EMAIL SERVER $99.88

Called a couple stores in St. Louis and they are out of stock, has been discontinued -- this is definitely a YMMV. If anyone finds one let us know...

FYI - Outpost has it listed for $299, call for availability.

Did your location have more than one available? Anyone know if they would take a credit card over the phone and then ship it? I would love to pick up one of these but none of the St. Louis stores has it in stock anymore....

Great deal, I've always wanted to learn Linux but on a separate box.

I'll be checking the local Portland CompUSA's later today.

I tried the CUSA store in Webster, Texas. One of the techs there bought the last one yesterday.

Our CompUSA only had the one and that is why I asked the manager to check the other stores. He pulled up a list of stores on the East coast and all but one one the list was showing at least one available as of 10:30 AM EST this morning.

Thanks GetReal - guess only you EastCoasters are getting lucky this morning. Shame that CompUSA won't ship items from their stores to customers. Even with shipping this would be a good price. Anyone want to pick one up and ship it to me???

Just got mine... its booting right now. No more in Little Rock.

I really have no purpose for it.. I might be willing to let it go :/

its a .88 deal @ CompUSA, so no returns, be sure to check your box first.

Nobody knew what it was. heh..

Got excited for a minute -- Bridgeton store in St. Louis showed 2 in stock, but when the girl came back on the phone she said they are both defective and are going back to the vendor. Wonder if she was lying and just decided to keep both for herself when she realized the price? Oh well, guess I'll just build my own mail server with one of the old Compaq PII400s that I have floating around the basement.

Kev

ps - if both of them are defective, combined with the fact that the manuf discontinued the product line, I wonder if there are problems with this model? Maybe not such a hot deal after all? I couldn't find ANY online reviews.....
