You lucky devil! But that's what you deserved, because you are the early bird..
BTW: Are you living in Cleveland or drove over 50 miles to pick it up?^_^

It wasted me 1 hour driving over there becasue I forget to hold it.:-(.

That would have been me. I called Friday morning and picked it up Friday afternoon. You holding it on Friday evening would have done no good, because it was gone by then. They must not have updated their inventory.

I went to compusa and got one today. For anyone thats still looking for one, there are two left at the San Bernadino compusa. I called, and they said they had three, so of course I was joyous....I arrive, having traveled 10miles or so, and the CSR tells me there are none left, and that he had checked yesterday. Then I remembered that the guy that had looked it up was in the "communications" section, so I walked over there and asked. What do you know, theres three over in the corner in one of the isles...

I want to figgure out a way to put linux on here, since according the the software, you need to buy upgrades to get NAS, Web server, and even FTP, for a low low LOW price of only $140 for each upgrade :disgust:

I'm wondering how to get about to it, perhaps take out the hard drive, plug it into my desktop, format it, then put the installation files on the drive? Any linux gurus handy?

nebby head over to the yahoo group where there are lots of discussions on mods for the units...specificall Ill be creating an image of a unit running e-smith

Id say this deal is just about DEAD now (maybe a few left floating here and there?)...rather than take up space here discussing specifics of the units, please use the yahoo forum I set up (see multiple references above).

I phoned Santa Clara at 1:15 and the guy told me "I've just sold the last two"! Well done Sir, you were quicker on the draw than I.
Around here you've got to be quick, there's penny pinching nerds everywhere.

I ended up getting one in San Bruno... it's a nice little box. THey had a couple left but I decided against getting them for Fleabay because it seemd like a lot of hassle for a hundred bucks or so, and kind stinky and unfair to people who might really *need* a mail server.

I'm sure this will be covered by the Yahoo group at some point soon. Go there for more info.

So, I spent 1 hour for nothing. What a waste.... While I was there they were sucking people's money by selling overpriced items. A kid bought 60gb compusa brand hard drive with extended(?) compusa warranty for $135 + tax.

It's the store in Paramus, NJ.

Oh Dude! I NABBED two for me and my buddy at that same store. This morning actually. They were stashed all the way in the corner by the left hand side (back). And one of them turned out to be a 900 MHZ system. SWEET!

Here's what I can tell the difference between a 900 MHZ and a 600 MHZ system...

900 MHZ are metalic cases
900 MHZ come with 3 THREE Lan adapters (2 PCI / 1 Onboard)

Here's to a BEAUTIFUL Monday morning.

called right after seeing your post, which was about 1 1/2 hour after, and was told none in stock. didn't want to waste a 1 1/2 driving round-trip to double check - what a retail store, customers can't take the employees' words . the compusa employee probably took the remainders after you left

thnx

I'm personally amazed you got through to anyone. I was phoning San Bruno last Friday for basically 20 minutes and getting nothing but voicemail. I even tried some basic phreaking and got through to random extensions (they are all on an x-4XX code) but it seems like *nobody* there is actually answering the phone. So I was pretty dumfounded when the store manager called back in response to my voicemail saying she'd put one away.

Of course, Emeryville and SF CompUSAs never bothered returning the voicemail. Respect to San Bruno!

SCORE!

after exhausting all of NJ, pennsy, delaware, connecticut and southern NY on Sunday I found out that the big Manhattan store was getting two in sometime this week. To my suprise they got them in TODAY and I was able to reserver one at 9 AM and pick it up at 5 minutes before closing after like a 3 hour drive. There MIGHT be one left in the Manhattan store (57th and Broadway) but they didnt have time to look for me when I got there. I think I got the crappier 600 Mhz one, but who cares - great deal anyway. Start Hackin!

Dude I had the same experience with a few different CUSA's this weekend. I definitely want to lodge a few complaints with their national HQ against a few stores. The poor dude from Paramus who couldn't find those two machines deserves some sort of recompense. In my case, the Freehold store seriously didnt answer the phone for two days.

San Jose, Pleasanton and San Bruno stores' employees answered the phone right away. Though they treated me like a retard 'cuz they couldn't hear me well over the cellular phone I pressed 3-3 in the voice system.

By any chance you'll be near to the San Bruno store tomorrow?

Thanks again.

Meehawl - I'm am amazed you got one, I went last week Sat, and they did find the sku# but told me they don't carry it anymore and that they don't have anymore in stock. And gave me a phone # to call. Which is a Compusa/commerical sales person. I'm going to call that person up and see if he/she can nab me one. I'm pissed if you got it that day or after, cuz that means the stupid CSR dicked me.

If you're not even sure what you're going to do with it, then why did you buy two??? (just curious, since many members are searching desperately for one of these)
