Call both NYC stores again and ask them if they'll be getting any in again in the future - thats the only way I was able to find mine. I think CompUSA ships their clearance stuff up to the larger stores, which is why people found a decent amount of these yesterday while they were scarce this weekend - many were in transit when this deal was announced.

I'll probably do what most others are going to do - play around with it, maybe install windows, install linux, try to stream mp3, etc. I don't need an email server, but a firewall/router/network storage will be fun. As I said, at that price, how could you resist (the second one is to try and recoup some of the cost). If anyone is interested, I can check to see if the last one is available tonight at Encinitas. I'll be happy to send it out at cost if it is still there. Send me an email.

Someone stated that the 900Mhz version has 3 NICs on the back (1 for WAN and 2 for LAN). My 6xxMhz has only 2. There is also a boot log that you can look at - I think it's in /var/log/dmesg.boot (or something like that). It's right up near the top of the file.

I see you don't want to open the box - sorry none of these will work for you.

I slided the covers off of mine and verified that all four of mine have 3 nic's, so I guess they're all 900mhz(?)

Can someone confirm this for me?

Apparently, many of the CRAPUSA employees covet items like these at ridiculously low prices and *hide themselves a bunch.

I called the Woodland Hills, CA (that's So. Cal) and when the employee answered the phone (call the number and press 0 for extension)
they said they didn't have any in stock.

I called again (by error, i thought i was calling the monrovia store) and pressed 8 (manager's extension, should be for most CRAPUSA) and the manager answered.
He said they had 4 in stock.

That's how I scored.

I was going to give the employee a hard time but I couldn't find him. (i will not reveal his name)

So next time, try the managers, unless they wana keep it for themselves you should be able to at least avoid those employees.

scored 5 of em at the Novi store in michigan, all of em are 633 according to /proc/cpuinfo (kidna odd, i thought my luck would increase with the number). The had 8 originally, and my friend snagged the remaining 3. As far as i can tell, mine are all with plastic casing and 2 ethernet plugs. Oh well, i'll just pick one to make a nice little solaris 8/divx player box.

As for the rest of em, they'll be all going on ebay....free market should take care of that
