Any serial code or anything on box you could give us to possibly distinguish 900 form 667 models ? Maybe mfr date. Same goes to anyone else who bought one here.
So you can fleabay it for the most cash without opening it?

No because a 900 mhz celeron runs on 100 fsb and a 667 runs on 66. There's about a 60% performacne difference between the 2 smarta$$

Yes, I'm smart and I have an ass.

There's little reason to need to look on a box, plug it in and see what you get.

Not all of use are buying 4 of these to sell on ebay. I would be doing it as a favor and if my store had 3 of these and 1 was a 900mhz I'd like to know which one. Or if 2 stores had them near me, I'd check both stores.

Maybe you could make a Beowulf Cluster grammar checker out of them...

In a related note, when the CUSA employee realized what I had, he really tried to talk be out of it with the 'no returns on clearance' thing. I was like, I dont care, I'm buying it.. He kept asking me if I was sure... if I was *really* sure.. what jerks, he wanted it himself..

HAHAHAHAHA, that's so typical. These things are returnable, at least mine are. Even the manager said so.

You're lucky if you're in a position to cherry pick...

Just so you know, he was full of crap! I have purchased MANY .88 clearance items from CompUSA and returned my fair share without any problems. CompUSA's return policy is clearly printed on your receipt and has no mention of no returns on clearance items.

BTW- We got ours up and running. We were not interested in the "abilities" of the unit other than it's intended use. A pre-configured Linux router/email server for $100 is a steal. The LCD display looks cool too!

I'd like to get the ftp/web parts unlocked. I guess I'm going to have to install apache?

installing apache is fairly trivial. same with proftpd or wuftpd for ftp.
no need to pay this company for better images/upgrades, just do it yourself.

apache.org has info. you can be really lazy and just install using rpms since its redhat, too.

Instead of messing with it why not just get a copy of redhat 8 or mandrake 9?

Because of this phenomenon I waited a few days to post after I initially heard about this deal... you don't have to be psychic to see this coming (Not that I am completely innocent of ever selling on egay)

Lots of people put HD stuff on fleabay, it's just the way it is. Sucks, but...

<sigh> I know -- this was just one of the deals that I really wanted to get in on, for my own use, so I'm depressed. Oh well, I'll get over it.... I'd just love to see AT'ers helping one another out on these deals, sharing the deals with one another... If someone ever wanted me to pick up an extra Hot Deal and ship it to em I'd love to help out. (so feel free to ask folks!)

couldnt agree more, sorry I only got 1 otherwise Id try to help someone out as Ive been helped out in the past here and helped others. For those who have extras I GUARANTEE you helping out a fellow anandtecher will pay more in the long run that the measley $100 youre gonna make on fleabay. You just KNOW theres gonna be that staples laptop deal or SOMETHING down the line that you cant get in on...

Good idea - I don't blame ya one bit for waiting to post this deal, cause it was a definite gonner by the end of today.... Hopefully in the future AT'ers will think of one another before thinking of fleabay....

kdegarmo, spring for a toshiba magnia from tigerdirect if they still have them. theyre sweet units, do the same thing AND theyve got a 7 port switch built into them. Ive installed several of them running e-smith software at SOHO clients and they work great! and theyre headless too...

I picked up one of the last two in Charlotte, NC. I have a good feeling that the guy helping me locate them is going to grab the last one.

Thanks for the tip - I was looking at those earlier today - didn't even notice the built in 7 port switch - have to dig into that a little deeper.
