The clerks at the store are completely idiots. I got there and one of them checked the computer, saying that they had two in stock. However they didn't know what/where they were. no clue, nothing.... So, I spent 1 hour for nothing. What a waste.... While I was there they were sucking people's money by selling overpriced items. A kid bought 60gb compusa brand hard drive with extended(?) compusa warranty for $135 + tax.

It's the store in Paramus, NJ.

Sold out in the following atlanta locations: marietta, lenox, roswell, alpharetta, perimeter

Man.. I called the lenox location and they had 1 left!! I asked them to hold it for me but they told me that their policy is 1st come 1st serve. So i do the 30 min drive and as soon as I ask the clerk to look for it, he says another clerk is looking for it b/c someone just called in asking about it. When he brings out the last one he tells me he cannot sell it to me because he is holding it for the person on the phone.. WTF.. I explained him my situation but he said sorry.. no can do.. What an ass. I even talked to the manager.. he said he'll look for one but I doubt he'll find another one.

COMPusa SUCKS.

I picked up the only one they had at the Framingham MA store but it's open box
with no manual, no cd, and no box, LOL. just the unit and the plastic stand.

so I booted it up but it flys by too fast for me to see the speed. someone please
msg me with the root password or whatever account we're to use to set the thing up.
I hope they're not all different and the password is on a little sticker inside the manual
because I have no manual.

any suggestions on finding the speed of the cpu? thanks for any help.

Ctrl+Page Up to scroll back towards the beginning of the boot sequence. You will see your mhz somewhere near the top.

I'd be willing to trade one of mine for an xbox. If someone's interested please IM me.

I bet you would trade a $99.00 email server for a $200.00 X-Box, especially since your're a greedy &%$#@%$@ that bought 2. Why not just take your sh1t to egay and buy yourself an X-BOX? I doubt anyone here will trade with a leech. People like you make me sick...

Go have relations with yourself you little newbie reptile turd. I bring tons of good deals to AT (unlike yourself) and I'm only looking to turn this things market value into another item's market value. Who is to assume someone's "buy in" on an Xbox isn't also $99? It's all relative. The hardware is basically the same.

I'd like to get the ftp/web parts unlocked. I guess I'm going to have to install apache?
Instead of messing with it why not just get a copy of redhat 8 or mandrake 9?

Because of this phenomenon I waited a few days to post after I initially heard about this deal... you don't have to be psychic to see this coming (Not that I am completely innocent of ever selling on egay)

Hey I like to know more about redhat8.0 And what features it have. I already downloaded it. So all I need is to find some place to really read up. And when I install it, will I get whatever that is already been configured in the original machine?

Or maybe I should clone the thing first on a separate partition before I install RH8.0?

Comon show me some of your tricks.

Thanks in advance,
Tot

BTW

worked for me (Ive got no manual either)

EDIT: for the gurus, theres an lcd_daemon in the /etc/rc.d/init.d/ directory points to: /usr/local/gallantweb/sbin where the setuplcd and lcd_daemon files live. Hope you can make heads or tails out of this!

For those that got a Sahara 3810 (Rebadged FIC Small Form Factor) here are some links. Sahara 3810 will be printed on the motherboard as well as a sticker on the outside of the case.

3810 Manual - note only difference is the front bezel
Latest bios for 3810
Folder with links to lots of drivers and utilities specifically for 3810. (Audio, LAN, VGA, etc) - There are probably newer versions of the drivers available elsewhere on the internet, but this is a good start.
Document on Compatibilty

FIC Technical Support Website

Edit: fixed links

Uhh , no you could not. And definitely not in this form factor or tested to work as this is. Also bear in mind that a lot of these are 900mhz celerons on 100fsb.

There are 2 slots for ram, and the 64 that is in there say PC 100 on it. From their webpage, on the faq under '"can the GallantWEB be upgraded?" it says :

Yes, the GallantWEB hardware is upgradeable. The GallantWEB can be upgraded to up to 1 GHz Intel Pentium 3 (coppermine) CPU, a total of 512 MB SDRAM (256MB per slot) and 127GB EIDE (UDMA 100) hard drive

That seems like an obvious case of employees grabbing one for themselves. I would have told the manager you were calling corporate on him if he didn't discipline the employees on the spot.

yeah, last year at CUSA I was told that a new video card was not in stock. I told them the website said they had them. Of course they told me not to believe the website. I argued with the these two guys about it, the manager overheard and went back to the repair area and brought out several boxes that they had packratted for themselves, handed me one and put the rest of the shelf. the look on their faces was a true Kodak moment.
