I gave this some thought and I will bring the love so to speak. I've been skimming this forum for awhile, even tho I just registered. You guys have definately saved me some serious fundage many times. I believe in eKarma, and I'll offer up mine to the bargain gods.

Besides, I wouldnt keep this for what it is (I'd just load w98) and thats much of the value as a net appliance. I think I was just hypnotized by the LCD.

I think kdegarmo asked first, so he's got 'dibs'.

If you can't find one, you can build a simple and inexpensive PC and use one of the following packages. They're pretty much the same as the Gallantry systems, just not as good looking and space efficient, but very good alternatives to the expensive commercial Internet Appliances that are out there.

i'd love to be able to get 2 or 3 to learn clustering with Linux and/or parrallel computing with FreeBSD on my desk but all out in the south SF bay area

Thanks, you are truly a good person - this will definitely gain you brownie points with the loyal ATers (good karma comes around this place)..... So how much would you want for it, shipped to St. Louis, MO 63114?

Let me know when you get a chance...

Thanks!

there are several linux utilities for writing to lcds like this one. search for "lcdproc" or go to the crystalfontz website and poke around in their linux section...

i got a unit so i will be playing with it today and i will post more info once i've got it working myself.

i drove 80miles out of my way to get a unit but its way cool. also the drive turned out to be TOTALLY worth it. i will post a new thread with details in a few minutes, but i found 2 new orinoco gateways for $49.88 (sticker price $299.99).

heh, i talked to the same guy - he said they sent them to the charlotte store according to the computer.

I picked up the last one in atlanta - it was at Lenox - it's on hold for me =) woot woot

And if anyone has 2 they don't want, send both of 'em to luv2chill, so that I can talk him into bringing one over to me...

the doc says it'll take up to a 1.0 Ghz Coppermine cpu. Are all Coppermines
Celereons or can I get a regular P3 Coppermine and put it in this?

Are you guys able to call the stores using the automated system they have? I can't seem to get in touch with anyone at different stores.

Has anyone actually notice that the secondary IDE connector on this thing is smaller that the primary connector?

And also for those who want to know whether you can whip in a DVD/cdrw drive in the casing.... its not possible as there arent any powersupply cable for it, and also the casing does not support any 5 inch drive space.(If you want you will need to mod the HDD/FDD drive casing to make space for the 5inch drive. I just dont see a easy way out.

Anyway I got a celeron 634mhz processor....which actually might be better coz I have an extra 64mb PC66 lying around.

Anyway it works pretty well as a server. Gonna try somemore stuff on it.

I will clone this drive image to my desktop rig and try to install RH8.0 on it later.

Is the PSU a standard size form factor? Can anyone point out what I should search for when looking for a higher-wattage replacement PSU? It appears to be 5.1" x 4" x 2.15".

Thanks

I intend to modify it into a NAS device... and I'll need more power for an additional HDD. That's the plan anyway!
