i really got lucky, because i was using 'store-locator' in compusa, and was putting my home zip code.. (So.Cal) .. called about 10 stores, non in stock...

then i was trying LA county, and clicked on the Big map of CompUSA, clicked california, and saw bunch of bubbles in So.Cal and notice one lone buddle at SB ... clicked, called,, ... end of story..

North Olmsted,OH has one in stock, I called on Friday night and drove there 1 hour ago. A guy checked the computer and told me it's still there. 5 minutes later, he came out and told me that someone had holded it.....

sounds like the hard drive might be bad, or the plug fell out the back of the hd, or off the mobo?

open up the case and dig around a bit. see if any wires are unplugged maybe.

I was snooping around inside earlier to determine how fast the CPU was (633 unfortunately). I checked the connections again and everything seems to be firmly in place. Still no luck!

Yea, I have been reading this thread for some time and I must say I am surprised by the bitterness and anger by all those who did not get in on this deal. At least in my case it was a lot of work and time and driving around in stress filled traffic just to get one. If someone is lucky enough to get more than one, good on 'em. It is not like anyone used deceit or misrepresentation to get more than one, they just got to a store and bought what was there.

Really, who is to say what is a HUGH profit and what is fair? Don?t be a stick in the mud just because you did not get one. Wait for the next deal and be vigilant. There are plenty of deals to be had.

And don?t come down on me for taking this position. If you look at the early posts, as soon as I found two, I put one on hold and posted the location of the second. So everyone just chill out.

Does the front panel LCD light up? If so, check to see if the HD is in the boot order in the BIOS by pressing the DEL key at startup to enter the BIOS setup.

Thanks for the help guys, but for some strange and unknown reason, it just started working all of a sudden.

Maybe because I poked around a little more inside and made sure everything was seated...

So now it boots up! Gotta go get a ps/2 key/mouse now

That would have been me. I called Friday morning and picked it up Friday afternoon. You holding it on Friday evening would have done no good, because it was gone by then. They must not have updated their inventory.

KompUSSR and other B&M stores need to have a way to advertise clearance items. CompUSA could have easily cleared this out if they simply advertised them on their website -- and they could clear them out at $200 or more with little effort.

Hey guys i would appreciate some help setting this thing up. i want to use it as a web server but don't know what that really entails. I have never used Linux before either. I am a managment Information Systems Junior at UNCCharlotte so i have a good basic knowledge of pc stuff and web design, but not linux or hosting. BTW i am joining Yahoo forum.

turns out the guy who had it on hold never showed up so I got the last one today at lenox in Atlanta.. Phew..

this thing is sweet open box tho.. but I think i'll hack it with a cdrom and put my own software on it anyways

good thing is.. since they gave me so much trouble getting it.. he knocked 40 bucks off the price.. down to 59.88 and made me buy the 39.99 120 days tech support thing.. im glad that he discounted the server and charged me for the tech support cuz im going to a diff compusa and returning that stupid tech support crap.. bring my final price to 59.88+tax SCORE!

Yes I am an project engineer for a Semiconductor Cleanroom Company and when we contract them my wage is noted as $70hr on the rate sheet.
And since I did this on a Saturday, my wage would be considered an overtime. According to the union standards, that's minimum of 1.5x your normal wage.

You are probably some kid that doesn't know the economics of the "real world" and thus I referred to you as a "kid".
If you're a kid you're ok. But if you are an adult you have some issues.
I would never sell it for "at cost" no fool would put in saturday hours only to sell it "at cost" you would end up losing money.

I posted my product and I posted the price I'm willing to sell it for.

If you don't like it, move on. Don't start crap like this next time.

And if you are incapable of apologizing, I will move on, just as I would not demand my neighbor's dog to apologize for peeing on my yard.
