A warm fire for a community can start off from a brilliant spark. Either that or join a community of John Doe.

I could go on saying that I believe in capitalism (the good sides of it), but that in a forum that gives, and for someone to come in proclaim his/herself as a leecher under the first-come first-serve basis, will cause some discouragements. But I won't say it directly because it could offend some people. :|

Well, I guess those who bid more than $150 on e|3bay really needed one for their small business or home office. They could just write if off. But for those not in the catagory above, well, you're just paying too much.

So your reason for not doing "a good deed" is because someone else might do "a bad deed"? That's right up there with "I was only obeying orders". Trying to rationalise greed is never wise. Love your avarice, make friends with it, even recite Gordon Gekko and Ayn Rand quotes to lull yourself to sleep, but just don't expect sympathy from me.

Thank you. If someone wants to be a greedy bastard they can look for them on their own.

Speaking of greedy bastards, I can't wait to see all these going for less than 100 on eBay. Let those whores lose some money on this deal is what I say

Anyone notice the 7 auctions ending first on fleabay, all have winning bids from sts107 with 0, YES ZERO, feedback. What's the chances that person is bidding to screw the auction? pretty high, I bet!

Iwearnosox: I see both you are fleabaying have been hit by this character, what a pity...

That guy is so dumb. If he didn't bid, the auctions would only be at like $50. And from the looks of the one that's about to end, no one really wants to pay more than $100 for one.

I'm not really concerned with it- honestly I bought the units with a useful purpose in mind but they're not going to cut it for lack of a CD drive. If mine end badly I'll sell them to someone here at cost, or maybe I'll just end the auctions now and do the same.

How big are these things, physically? I have yet to actually see what they look like. If I could find one, I'd use it as a nice little remote-desktop "terminal" for my other boxen. I used to have a 486 laptop to use for that, but it died. (I keep a computer at my bedside, and my main boxen are across the room.. too big and noisy to be next to my bed.) Right now, I have a Pentium-100 box doing that job, but I turn it off when I'm not using it, because it's too noisy still. The laptop was just right, could just put it to sleep when not using it. Yes, it's probably pretty sad when your bedroom looks like a server farm.

Not very big. And these things are very quiet. The power supply fan is regulated by the case temperature. The hard drive is also very quiet, I can't hear it at all with one computer running nearby.

With this, you wouldn't want it to be a terminal, it's powerful enough to run everything itself. Just up the RAM and you're good to go.

This thread made me subscribe.

This is because the GW500 is such a neat deal. I'm US Navy, and work in the IT world, but do not get to play with linux/unix stuff much. I called the 10 or so CompUSA's around DC, and only one had any, Woodbridge, VA, and they had two. So I bought em both. Do I need both? Naw. Do I need one? Naw... But I am going to keep one to toy around with.
Seems tho, that the linux side is not friendly to non-linux peeps like me. The HTML interface (by browsing from any network computer), is super easy, just like a router, switch, or any web interface. Too easy almost. And the upgrades seem to be "unlockable" with a simple purchase from gallantry. Only con so far is that to initially configure your box, you have to change the controlling stations IP to a static 10.0.0.x network ip, to access the Gallantry's 10.0.0.1:8000 interface. Do that, change the IP to match your networks net ip, and you're groovin.

So like I said originally, I only want one to toy around with, so I'm gonna sell the other. Fak puttin it on ebay, I'll give you guys the chance. Not sure how this PM stuff works, but PM me an offer, and it'll go to the best silent bid by midnight tomorrow, friday 2/7/03. Will not post in buy/sale trade unless moderators make me, cuz this deal is for you guyz only. You choose shipping method, and insurance.

I wont sell for less than$99.88, but I will sell for $99.99 plus shipping if thats the winning bid.

Thanks for the great deal.

P.S. Shipping from Bowie, MD 20716

A "silent auction, for you guyz only?" Puh-leaze. EIther sell it outright for cost, put it in FS/FT for a higher price or eBay it. Having a silent auction here is insulting and is sure to get you some colorful posts (like this one!) Besides, it's against forum rules.

I just re-read forum rules, and nothing is said about fs/ft.
I'll post it there, just wanted to give y'all first crack.

Thats cool... just alot of ppl try sellin stuff (auction or otherwise) in this forum and it usually gets the thread locked (least if thats what the thread is about to begin with) Trust me I got banned for about 2 weeks for linking an auction off Ebay thinkin it was a good deal.....

Makes sense. Also though, I am sincere in my first post. I got the deal because of this specific thread, so I think it would be best to give the contributers to this thread, the chance to get one, since everyone seems to not be able to. The only reason I say PM me, is not for cash (cuz as long as I get the cash I paid, I don't care), but to offer it to someone whom really wants/needs it. Plus it'll prolly go for about that price...

The forum rules do not say you cannot offer the same item that the Hot Deal Thread refers to, at the same price. I'm sure someone would buy at FS/FT... But I've already explained my point.

I bid $50 plus $10 shipping.

I don't think anyone here is going to outbid me so just sell it to me real quick for that price..
