Well, now this is FLAMING hot:

CompGeeks just added the Plextor 40X SCSI drive, NEW (white
box, OEM for HP) for $53. This alone is hot. Now, when you click on
the drive to purchase it, you get a list of "these
are extra specials you can buy because you bought the
CDrom". One of these is a set of (refurbished) Altec
Lansing 340x speakers for $4.00! These are good
satelites + subwoofer speakers with tone controls &
volume on the satelites. Normal price on these at
CompGeeks is $49 (cheapest on Pricewatch is $34).

The total for the CDrom and the speakers is $57. THEN
if you pay with your Mastercard and use the widely-known
code (sorry, I won't upset the mods here; go to
T***Bargains.com if you want it) you get another 10% off,
or $51.30 for the two items.

Shipping is gonna run you $17 MAX for the two items
(speakers weigh 20 pounds). Less if you don't live across
the country like I do. You'll catch a break on shipping
if you buy more than one of each.

At any rate, WITH shipping, you're talking $68.30 for
a NEW (not refurbed but is OEM for HP) Plextor 40x SCSI CDrom
AND the good speakers.

Damn! Wish I hadn't jumped on that HP OEM Plextor drive
deal at Centrix the other day...

The Plextor at Compgeeks HERE looks to be the same OEM for HP as that Other thread, but still at a much better price. The price for the Plextor at Centrix is now up to $65 dollars.

Centrix is hot but Compgeeks is flaming!

I feel you Kwad guy. I jumped on the centrix deal too.

DJChemistry: You're right. The photo in the CompGeeks listing
clearly shows it's the HP OEM drive. But still at a considerably
better price even before the speaker toss in!

I'll edit my original posting...Thanks...

The speakers for $4 have got to be a mistake, but it'll be interesting to see how the Geeks handle it. I'm in.

Well I feel much better that it's an hp oem since I just got mine from centrix today =D However, even at the price I paid ($59+) it's a nice one. Already installed even and I love it...

These speakers are excellent, the controls for bass and treble on the sattelite is ingenious...

What's the difference between the OEM and retail versions? Any interesting software apts bundled with the retail version?

Retail comes with Plextor Manager, which is a nice utility for
controlling parameters related to your CD-ROM. HOWEVER, it only
works with Plextor drives. If you have both a Plextor reader
and a Plextor writer, it's a nice program to use. Otherwise,
I'd say it isn't a big loss not to have it.

They're still there. You don't have to search for them. Add the
Plextor 40X SCSI drive to your basket. When you do, the speakers
will appear in a list on the screen of "bonus bargains" that you
can purchase. You can purchase one pair of speakers for each
CDrom you purchase.

Damn this is one great deal. I just wish I had the extra money to spend on the drive, but I am currently only in budget for my 900Mhz TBird and an MSI K7T Pro2-A. Oh well maybe next time. =P

lol. i'm an idiot. when i got to the final screen i just noticed that the shipping was $15 and it was 2nd day air. i was like WTF!?!?! hehe, went back and there was a $7 ground option. if they were from NY or something i wouldnt mind but i'm 2hrs away from them hehe.

anyways, good deal, now i can utilize back speakers on my Live! X-Gamer card. i can hear "Ding! Gong! Bonk!" in surround sound (dont play games during skewl, but i'm still typing up my eng101 term paper now and it's due in about 9hrs lol).

just be sure to check the shipping options b4 you finish.

spending too much moolah on these deals, arg! prolly nearing a grand soon.
/me waves bye bye to his car

btw,i think that bizrate is rigged, at least the flash wheel that spins (or they change it every week or diff times of the day). i always get the one where you click it once and it spins to "try again" then the 2nd spin goes to "sorry". i went to the source and it was the same file! something like 68k.swf (something b4 the numbers)
