mp3phish: Sync should be enabled. Check the shipping box again for that audio input cable. Mine was buried amongst the green packing peanuts.

K-squared: The faceplate is the same as the UltraPlex 32 and 40.

Just want to say thanks to Kwad Guy.
This combined with the $150 compusa Imation drive gives me a fully scsi (including card) plextor system for $203.

Missed out on the speakers, but didn't want them anyways.
Did get the $4.85 tool kit. Worth is just for the claw.

This board is too good, making me spend all my money.

Nothing yet--------LotsaMula will be back from his trip soon, and the proggy will be available--------patience.

I think that for $4.00 + shipping, the speaker system is a pretty damn awesome deal!

Many thanks to Kwad Guy for the excellent post and deal!

Woohoo! Just got mine today. Thanks again, Kwadguy.

Just a quick question for the speakers, though... I have a set of Altec Lancing ACS33 (I think) that I got for something like ~$35, to use for a basic system I'm building for a friend. Is this better or worse than the pakcaged speakers I just got? I haven't opened and tested the ACS33 yet & depending which one is better, I'll be keeping it for my second system... Any thoughts? Thanks!

Patiently waiting for the proggie to make the drive into Plex... Btw, also special thanks to Jim, who's been dilligently(sp?) working for us on this Plex flash!

I gotta stop coming to this forum until at least the Christmas season is over...

gotta say thanks to Kwad Guy for this awesome deal, one issue though.

Cdr-win 3.8 tells me its an unsupported drive and uses generic drivers and padus disc juggler 2.x doesnt recognize it at all.
I'm assuming its an issue b/c it tells both programs its an hp drive and that normal 40x plextors work fine with these programs.

So my question is, anyone else experiencing these problems and would this bios flash probably fix it?

TIA

I just got the drive today. Hook it up.

I am having problem with this in NERO. It doesn't pickup the drive at all. Does anyone have the same problem?
As for DAE. I try to extract audio into mp3 from my audio cds and the conversion speed is about 4.8 - 5.0 x. How come people say that can get from 13x to 30x?

When I test the CD-rom thru EZCD the read speed is about 10x.
Can anyone let me know what kind of program you gus are using with the HP Rom?

Thankx

I was having the same problem with Nero until I upgraded to the laster version 5.0.3.5. Then it recogized it as HP CD-rom CD40X. But I haven't burned anything yet therefore Don't know how well it works.

Be careful with those Adaptec cards at CompGeeks. I bought some
a while back and they turned out to be very old 2940 (IBM) pulls
that only supported transfer rates of 10Mbps (and with non-flashable
BIOS).

Is there any ripper/encoder that works with this drive as is? That's the main reason I bought it (DAE) but it doesn't work with any I've tried. The NERO upgrade does seem to work.

Well, I hooked up the drive and the CD to CD copy works perfectly. I just love the fact that this can keep up w/ providing constant audio/data feed to my Plextor 12X burner. However, as others have mentioned, I am having the similar problem of DAE. The error I get in Audiograbber is something to do with ASPI. Anyone have any ideas? Thanx..

BTW, thanks KwadGuy for the great deal! Much props on the find! Haven't hooked up the speakers yet, but will compare 'em against my digital MS ones..

Oh, one other quick question.. what's the advantage of making it a Plextor vs HP? Besides being able to upgrade the software Firmware versions and being able to run the Plextor S/W? Are there any other benefits? I mean, performance wise that is?

First off thanks for the great deal! The cd-rom works flawlessly, but I really want device manager to sy "plextor" not "hp" not to mention the plextor firmware updates. Sounds like you all have it under control. The speakers are well worth the $3.60 I would say, better than my 5 year old koss POS's. Can't wait for the proggy and will keep on bumping till then.....

I think (I'm not possitive) that most software read the firmware to determine the drive that it's trying to detect. So if your cdrom drive's firmware says HP 40X that software will think that it's an HP and not a Plextor and therefore not recognize it. I went to GoldenHawk's website (maker of cdrwin) to view the list of compatible drives and HP was not listed. Since people were having this problems using CDRWin, I'm pretty confident that it is in fact reading the firmware to discover the type and model of the cdrom drive. So to answer a few of the questions posted, the advantage of being able to change the firmware to say Plextor will allow the drive to be better detected by the various softwares AND to be able to use Plextor's software.

If I'm wrong, please reply.
Thanks,
-sb

Ender510:

In audiograbber under settings, change CD-ROM type to "SCSI-plextor" and it should work ok.
