Very few of the 9800 Pro's can be flashed to an XT. The only one that I know is the newer MSI 9800P, since it uses the exact same core as the 9800 XT.

If your 9800 Pro can hit XT speeds then there is really no advantage to flashing to an XT.

9800pro's with the R360 core and 128mb can be flashed with an XT bios from what I understand, but a 128mb card will of course remain a 128mb card.

Lots of the new 9800 pros can be flashed to XTs. Search rojakpot.com for a guide on identifying a card that can be flashed and flashing to a XT.

It will only be possible to flash to a 9800XT if you have an R360 core. If not, well, you're SOL. Also why would you want to flash "9800 Pro 128mb to a 256mb"? There is a whopping 10MHz speed difference on the memory, and thats it. The core speed is the same. You would probably see a 0.3fps change in performance, if that. Flashing to a 9800XT is more reasonable, but as BlueWeasel said, there is really no point in flashing to XT if your card can hit XT speeds with the stock BIOS. Also, I will mention again that you HAVE to have an R360 core version to make it work. I guess that the only other reason you would want to do it is to enable OverDrive and the temp sensor, so, give it a shot if you want.

Read quite a bit about it. Since my 9800p OC's up to and past XT speeds on both core amd mem Why bother?

If it was 256MB card, fine. But for those of us with R360 cores and 128MB, bah, doesn't seem the risk and trouble.

Just my .02

The extra 128mb of ram comes in handy for displaying tons HD textures. Like HL2, D3, FC, SC3, etc.

But flashing isn't going to unlock an extra 128mb of RAM on the card. Regardless, even if you have a Pro with the R360 core, the amount of RAM isn't going to change once you've flashed it.

flashing a r360 pro to xt benefits not only to "permanent" higher clocks but also the r360 makes much more efficient use of the shaders. I know for a fact that you gain more from flashing to an xt than just oc'ing to xt speeds. I had(since have upgraded) 9800 pro with r360 and 2.2ns hynnix ram(both xt specs). First I was just using oc'ed to xt speeds, but then i flashed it and gained about 500 3dmark03 points. If you can flash the card successfully, you should

yeah right, you will be able to overclock your card much higher with Xt bios flashed in, and XT is enabling some features like Overdrive and you will gain 5% performance gain in the same Clock frequency, but there are many users that don`t know about this thing, Xt bios is enabling some shader features , which are not in 9800pro

supposedly the r360 is more efficient at using shaders, so using the xt bios will in fact be more efficient. To any of those no believers out there I "dare" you to try it. I personally gained 500+ points from the flash alone. I had my 9800 pro @ xt speeds before the flash and score much lower than when recognized as an xt. If you have a 128 meg version make sure you get a modified xt bios that only uses 128 megs
