I've been on youtube once today and it crashed as I tried to close it.

Same. It's when I try to close the tab that it crashes. If the video was playing, I still hear it. I have to force-close the browser and all my other tabs.

Flash has been crashing for the past few days for me too. I'm also using Chrome. I'll have to check into this fix, thanks OP.

Yes flash has been crashing a few times a day for me for the past several days now. Twice just today. I'm also on Chrome.

Edit: Crashed again for the third time today right after I posted

Yes, flash, specifically Youtube has been wrecking chrome on both my home and work computers for the past few days.

I also had a Youtube video crash my Adobe plugin while using Chrome earlier today. Funny that it would suddenly start happening between Google products without a Flash update unless... Google wants you to switch! Kinda reminds me of Gmail blocking compatibility mode in IE9 for so long while breaking the pop-up dialog for CCing multiple recipients. It had to be deliberate!

Chrome is probably responsible, in some way. It updates transparently. Because Chrome uses separate processes for each tab and one to coordinate the interface, it shouldn't be possible for a bad/glitchy plug-in to make the whole browser unresponsive.

Same here, I was wondering why it was crashing last night every time I tried to close the tab. Oh well, HTML5 for me, no reason to look back now.

Fine on Opera here. Doesn't Chrome have flash built in somehow now? Maybe its something with Chromes internal flash version.

it's been happening since Adobe released an update and I refused to install it.
Doesn't have to be youtube for me, just anything. My conspiracy theory is they want me to update.

Same. Everytime I watch a flash video on Chrome, the entire browser crashes.

Awesome. After switching to the HTML5 trial, Chrome no longer crashes. Thanks OP.

I did encounter one YouTube video that still played in Flash...and crashed Chrome again.

It was the duck video that DixyCrat posted in the Jesus' Middle Name Is Hume thread (DixyCrat a pervert).

So having used it, what's your opinion on the HTML5 player? Are there any down-sides to switching that you've found so far?

I have noticed some hitching while I try to jump ahead in a fully buffered video. Other than that, no problems with it.

I've encountered a few pages that still use the Flash player (like Vevo music videos and such)...and they still crash the Chrome browser.

Thanks, i'll give it a whirl. Personally i hate Flash/Silverlight et al with a passion and can't wait to see the end of all Browser Plug-Ins. They are, without exception, heinous beyond belief.

I don't know. I use Silverlight on my Mac to watch Netflix and haven't any problems with it. I'm not a fan of it, but I don't have any complaints except for knowing it has DRM. I agree that no plugins would be better. I hate Flash.
