flash player forces google chrome installation

This is new for me.

* The adobe flash player installs without notification (or an option if i want to install google chrome) google chrome.

* And why is it that the windows7 kernel cannot kill a process such as the adobe installer or google chrome ?

* Under windows xp i was able to kill any process.
Under windows 7 64 bit i have to restart to get a process killed.

* And un-installing cannot be done if the program is not allowed internet access.
(It turns out it does un-install but after a long time.)

I am disappointed about the performance of windows 7 64 bit.

Heh. Are you sure you clicked on the right Flash version? I think there are 4 versions:

- Internet Explorer (and other browsers that support Internet Explorer ActiveX controls and plug-ins)
- Internet Explorer (Windows 8)
- Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera (and other plugin-based browsers)
- Chrome (Pepper-based Flash Player)

If you clicked on the 4th one, my guess is it would install Chrome automatically, because Chrome has Flash built-in ?

To be honest, it came up from autoupdate asking me to update the flash player. Such a selection screen i have not seen. I just clicked yes and an installer.exe with a huge name was downloaded. Afterwards it hung up on me because i have my firewall set in such a way that every program wanting internet access must be approved. I then tried to kill the installer but W7 refused to do so. I had no permissions while being admin at that moment.

While downloading and installing, there was a link opened to an adobe website in my opera browser. But there where no checkboxes to see nor did i see a google chrome advertisement or notice that google chrome would be installed. Maybe if i would have read through all the pages and links. But that is no way a company should operate.

I mean, the trend is now to reduce options for users by making simpler programs while at the same time hide add ware under a few hidden hyperlinks.

Best option would be to use direct links. They are usually posted in the software forums when Adobe releases a version.

Firefox, Opera, etc
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player.exe

IE
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player_ax.exe

uninstaller:
http://download.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash_player.exe

These never have any additional installers in my experience and will always link to the latest download

This is not new. There is a small checkbox in the initial Flash update screen that says to install and make Chrome your default browser. It is checked by default! Be aware and uncheck it before saying "Yes" to the Flash update.

I happened to me last year, and I never forget it now. Getting rid of Chrome and restoring all my links was a real PITA. Lesson learned! Don't trust Adobe. Here is the proof!

Right! And the section with the checkbox is blank in my Palemoon setup. Must be adblock or NoScript or Flashblock causing the problem. I started doing the update and saw Chrome being installed--I aborted Chrome and the Flash update and now download full installs with IE.
