Flash websites?

I am interested in learning how to make a flash page, but I have no idea how. How did some of you learn? Also, it's only learning myself, so I don't want to pay or have anyone teach me.

I taught myself Flash from online tutorials and getting a book or two for reference. Start out with a few simple tutorials, learn the timeline and simple actions. Just google for flash tutorials. After learning the simple stuff, I purchased a Flash self-teaching book from Amazon.com, and went from there. It's really not too hard, but you do have to have some kind of inclination for the process.

go to flashkit, grab the sample movie .FLAs they have there and take it apart. Start off with the easy ones. There's no better way to learn than from example. Don't understand something? .. ask the forums along the way.

just as a side note making a "flash site" is in my circle at least considered one of the most annoying things to do these days. Flash can be used for menus and banners but to design an entire site around the medium is just asking for problems. Its neat to use and enhance your site but having an entire site built through it is too limiting. Combining CSS, xml, Flash, and javascript you can make some really neat pages and effects that will impress i think.

Don't forget to make an easy-to-find link (one in HTML, not embedded in the Flash file) to skip the animation, or else go to an HTML-only version. Some people are stuck on dial-up yet (thank my ISP I'm not one of them), and downloading Flash animations can be an excruciatingly long wait, especially if you're waiting for it to load just so you can press "Skip animation."

Cool guys. Thanks a lot. I am going to try and make a site for someone, and I know HTML. I just thought it would be neat to learn flash and make the site real spiffy.
