Flashing banner ad

I know there's a thread about this in OT, but I thought maybe it belonged here.

That flashing banner is beyond irritating - the strobe effect is triggering my migraines. I know from past threads that there are quite a few members who suffer from the same kind of migraines I do - this has to be affecting more than me.

I don't get headaches from this banner, but I completely hate it. It makes cruising the forums an unenjoyable experience with that thing flashing at the top. It is hard to focus on what you are reading with that at the top. I know I can just scroll down, but I still don't think that an ad like this should be on Anandtech. I know that the ads are not specifically chosen by the forums, but I would hope that an ad can be placed on a "banned" list.

I agree also. It makes the forums very difficult to read. I don't mind banners, but the ones that try to draw attention to themselves like that is going pretty low.

I have to agree with everyone else on this. I loaded a page and it had one flashing at the top and one at the bottom. I can easily see how this could trigger migraines or even seizures.

I've noticed those banners too, and especially when replying to a post, such a banner flashing the whole time is extremely annoying and for some people even dangerous.

I use Mozilla now full-time to browse AT, since you can choose not to load images from another than the originating server (the one the document came from). I now just see white spaces instead of banners. Maybe a suggestion for some members until those banners are no longer displayed?

OK, I just saw the ad, and I must add my voice that that thing is bloody annoying! I could just feel it pounding away behind my eyeballs.

Whether or not it can be removed easily is another story, but I thought I would add my vote to the list to get rid of it if possible.

I second to what yiwonder commented. Get rid of it! :|

I mentioned this in OT but it might be worthwhile here also, as a temporary work-around (I doubt the ad will be with us very long) you can press <Esc> and it will stop flashing.

That ad is so obnoxious it has everyone talking about it, yet I still don't know what they are selling, so I think their strategy backfired.

I think it's cool. Every time I see it, I experience flashbacks.

NOTE: Above reference may not be comprehended by the younger crowd.

Let's just hope it's not as hard to get rid of as that jumping woman popup.

Oh look how nice, they have one on the bottom of the page too. I'm in advertising and I think this totally sucks. It's very AOL like. Congratulations! Pretty soon you all will start having those irritating flash ads like they do at Cnet.com and ZDNet.com, their sister site. They put those ads right in the middle of any article you are reading. I've complained to them countless times to no availe.

Have to add my "yuck" to the giant flashing ad as well.

And, as also noted, you might want to point out to the ad company that very few of us are even noting what is being advertised on that one (I certainly didn't note any name, and I am not going to click on something like that - just get it off my screen as rapidly as possible). Whoever is doing their ad design work isn't earning their keep - that ad will drive more people away than bring them in.

The ESC thing is good to know, but it's limited in its application since you have to hit it every time you load a page or hit refresh.
