Recently, my moniter has been displaying flickering lines, once in a while. My moniter is the Samsung 793DF and my graphics card is a PowerColor Radeon 9600 pro.

I've reformatted the pc at least once and no, it doesn't seem to have helped the issue. And I've even reinstalled the graphic drivers and also checked the cable connections. I've kept my handphone away but the problem still persists.

The strange thing is that when I launched several games when the lines appeared on the moniter, they don't appear inside the game.

Hmmm... I'm stumped and I wonder what the problem could be. Perhaps I could try resitting the video card but I wonder how that would help. Or, is this just an issue of moving away the speakers, I wonder.

Any ideas on what this problem could be?

Ahhh it's 1024 x 768 @ 85hz. It's the maximum refresh rate supported by the moniter for this resolution.

dont think its the speakers.
the magnetic field just usually attracts the electrons causing rainbow circle thingies

is it a pulse (regular) or just intermittent?
is there anything else near by, wlan antenna?
have you tried a different monitor?

Take a screenshot. If it doesn't show up in a screen shot then it's an artifact produced in the monitor. If it does show up in a screen shot it's being generated by the card.

From your photo it appears to be a problem with the monitor.

bisqeet is on to what it probably is - EMI. Not easy to track down. EMI can be "generated" by many things. Sometimes the fix is simply moving some wires and cables around. Avoid neatness - EMI loves wiring harnesses and neatness. Jumbles are better.

On the speakers - if they are powered, i.e., one contains an amplifier, that could well be the problem.

What changes, if any that you can think of, have you made lately around the time the problem started? Even something seemingly unrelated on the surface could cause the problem. What else was going on around the time of the problem popping up?

Well, it's random.

Erm, anything near by? Let me see. There's a fan, a switch, an adsl modem, a printer, a subwoofer plus a jungle of wires. Oh boy...

You're right. I couldn't take a screenshot 'cos nothing appeared.

Damn. So, it might be the subwoofer? Ughhh... is there any way to stop it from messing around with the moniter? Because, I simply can't put up with this, can I?

Ehhh, creating a mess and a lot of the wires were being shifted around, and I think certain parts were being moved around, too. Gods, I really do have to like tidy up the room a bit. There's a lot of things lying around. Wonder if they could be part of the problem here. =/

(edit I might also have re-inserted my sound card. I'm not sure and can't fully remember, though.

I do computer repair and I can guarantee that's EMI. Unless the photo is misleading me that's a problem with the monitor. It's dying.

EMI causes geometry distortions and/or color distortions not streaks.

Connect the monitor to another computer in another room to confirm.

All right, thanks for the advice. So, EMI can shorten the lifespan of a device?

Anyways, I'm really glad that I managed to take a picture of this. After all, it happens like only once a while.
