Il-2 Sturmovik: 1946 (PC)
Oleg Maddox?s world famous IL-2 Sturmovik series of flight simulators continues to expand. The latest offering, IL-2 1946, adds 36 new planes, four new gigantic maps, over a hundred new ground objects, and nearly 200 new campaign missions. This new opus also includes all of the previous Il-2 series content. What years ago began as a one-aircraft study sim is now an astonishing anthology, with a whopping 229 flyable aircraft and over 300 aircraft total! Not to mention that players will have the opportunity to get a first glance at the future of the series arriving next year, Storm of War: Battle of Britain via exclusive bonus videos.

New aircraft: 32 new flyable fighters and bombers, including the Il-10 Sturmovik, the MiG-9 Jet fighter, the Arado Ar-234 Blitz jet bomber, or the N1K2 George fighter; plus four new AI aircraft.

New maps: Large new historical maps of the Kiev region, a Manchuria region map focusing on the border between the USSR, China and Japanese-occupied Korea, a large bonus Burma map and an online Khalkin Gol/Nomonhan map.

New campaigns: With nearly 200 missions, unparalleled realism and attention to detail, the nine new campaigns will thrust players into detailed fighter and bomber pilots missions for the German, Soviet and Japanese air forces.

Alternate history: Three of the nine campaigns are a departure into alternate history, focusing on hypothetical battles between the Soviet Union and Germany in the year 1946 where WWII still rages on. Both the VVS and Luftwaffe now have access to advanced jet and rocket fighters.

Unparallel historical accuracy: All of the historical campaigns and aircraft are created with the same ceaseless attention to detail that made the Il-2 series so popular; and even the what-if planes and missions are made as realistic as possible, with final results often rewriting the commonly-held opinion on these prototype aircraft.

New features: In addition to such exotic aircrafts as Soviet mixed-power fighters, 1946 also adds an incredible variety of new ground targets, including, for the first time in the series, trenches and bunkers that give a whole new dimension to the ground attack aspect of the simulation.

Exclusive bonus: Making of, interview videos and screenshots of the new features, plus exclusive screenshots and never before seen videos taken from upcoming Maddox game Storm of War: Battle of Britain. A Detailed Plane Guide, totaling over 450 pages of information, gives the low-down on every single one of the 229 flyable aircraft, giving new players much easier access to the incredible variety of aircraft in the simulator.

I messed around with one of the IL-2 games a while back. I believe you can fly coop LAN missions against the computer AI, pretty fun stuff. May have to pick up a copy myself.

Does this include the complete IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles and Aces Expansion Pack, in addition to new content?

EDIT: and is it mergeable with Pacific Fighters?

Thanks OP!

I just picked up a copy from my local Circuit City.

I've read many positive reviews of this game and the $9.99 price is great.

As a general caution, the learning curve is supposed to be pretty steep but that's not unusual for flight sim games.

My copy had no written manual in the jewel case (I think it's on PDF).

I take it this is standard giving the low MSRP price?

If it's $9.99 for all the jewel cases (i.e.: not mark down of the ones in boxes), this is 'standard' fare; most JC games i've seen are $10.

But, this is supposed to be a pretty good game. It might make me get the dust off of my Saitek FCS sitting in my closet.

Thanks for the heads up OP - I'll go check this out on my next outing.

It's the dvd type case, containing a cd of the IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 and dvd with all the other games and dvd video (haven't figured out how to install those other games yet, as no auto installer pops up when I put the dvd into a dvd drive)

Did you actually get it in a jewel case? Mine came in one of those thick DVD sized cases like mshan mentioned. I haven't opened mine yet but I assume there no manual inside.

Looks like the first install disc is actually a dvd that contains all of the games.

I just had to select the right choice in the pull down menu.

Real nice because it is all a simple, single disc install and everything is integrated.

I already own Pacific Fighters, so I guess I will just have to pull the manual out from that game case.

Hands down the best combat sim in the history of the universe. For $20 (that I paid 2 days ago, and will lobby Amazon for the refund) this game is a steal, for $9.99 you are commiting a sin not buying it.

I used ALL the versions from the beginning and believe me, the hoops you had to jump through to install the base game and the updates was a royal pain. I would pay $50 for this and be happy. Enjoy!

Now, what joystick are people using? I used to use a Logitech FF, then went to wireless logitech - love it.

I played this for a year on a P4 with only an ATI 9600 passive cooled card. The game plays fine on lower end systems - just don't max out features. And truthfully, the best system I ever played it on - with SLI madness, didn't increase the fun of the game. Sure you could really sea water great, but the reality is that you are almost always at an altitude that renders the rendering less important than many other games.

Thanks much OP! IL-2 is a brilliant Flight Sim... The best made to date. Considering the original code is about 9 years old, it's amazing to say the least. The flight models are very good, but sometimes it's just fun to create air & ground battles and watch the AI duke it out while filming the whole thing...

The following info is not necessary but may add to the enjoyment...
