DCS: A-10C Warthog Beta Access with Pre-purchase [Oct 04, 2010, 3:29 pm ET] - 8 Comments

This press release from The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics announces that DCS: A-10C Warthog is now available for pre-purchase from the Digital Combat Simulator Digital Store. Those who make this advance commitment will be granted access to the prerelease beta for the combat flight simulator, a beta they say will be updated approximately every two weeks. Here's word on the game: "'DCS: A-10C Warthog' is a PC simulation of the U.S. premier Close Air Support attack aircraft. This is the second aircraft in the DCS series, following DCS: Black Shark, and raises the bar even higher in the DCS series. Warthog brings the most realistic PC simulation of a modern fixed wing combat aircraft in regards to flight dynamics, avionics, sensors, and weapon systems. You also have the option to play Warthog in "Game" mode for a casual game experience. Fly missions in the Caucuses region of the Black Sea against and with a wide array of air, land and sea forces with new and improved intelligence. Create your own missions and campaigns with the included Mission and Campaign Editors, and fly with and against friends online using the included online game browser."

It is impressive, I can't believe I haven't heard anything about it until now.

I've got an old Saitek X-45 and Track IR that's been sitting in my closet since I put IL-2/Pacific fighters on the shelf several years ago. I wonder if Win7 x64 drivers exist for them?

Anyways, please post your impressions when you get a chance. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to preorder or not.

This looks really sweet! I am not much into flight sims any more but the A-10C is one airframe that I would love to check out!

Was just talking yesterday how I wish someone would make another modern, good combat flight sim. Looking forward to impressions, would jump right on it if good physics and gameplay!

I was excited until I read it was from the makers of Lock-On. That game and I don't exactly have a good history.

Yeah I'm thinking about grabbing one since my X-45 killed my Blackshark experience and needs to be put out to pasture.

I have a modded (evenstrain, hall sensor) Cougar, and it's hard to resist this new model...have to wait to make sure the reviews are good, but it's tempting as a Christmas present.

Yeah, I just checked and I don't think it's out yet. I thought for sure it would be by now. Even for $400+(yikes) I think I'd be hard pressed to say no.

Something that kills me though, there's no pedals being offered. You can use 3rd party pedals but then you have to use different software. Something I really liked about my X-45 was the rudder rocker on the throttle. But the new Saitek sticks are twist rudder, which is the worst thing ever IMHO.

How are the campaigns in the blackshark game? I loved Janes because the campaigns were always fun to play. I find myself growing farther and farther apart from gaming, but if I could find a good sim to bring me back i'd be happy to come back.

The software for the X-52 is better and it's a higher quality unit but the rudder thing put me off ever upgrading.

Lots of people like them so unless you were in love with your X-45 I think you'll be happy.

The reason I'm ditching mine is that it's just long in the tooth and several of the switches have deteriorated. Also it just requires too much force the move the x/y axis off center causing serious control problems(at least in Blackshark where any kind of rapid input means you're almost certainly going to crash).

Pretty weak compared to something like Jane's. My favorite part of that game was actually memorizing the manual startup sequence. I did much better on that than I ever did as a helo jockey.

Moar A-10 please....

That's disappointing. The IL-2/Pacific Fighters was fun at first and was awesome online, but the single player campaign was so sterile that I eventually lost interest. I was also hoping for a campaign similar to the old Jane's games, though I think Aces of the Pacific is still my all time favorite.

BTW, here's the manual startup sequence for A-10C

I hear you there, that spring on joystick is pretty tight... OK, I will give X52 a shot, thanks!
