It apparently maps your remote buttons to corresponding keyboard input... but how do you use it on a device that doesn't have keyboard equivalent, or handle functions for which there isn't a keyboard shortcut?
You don't, really. But the good news is most things are keyboard compatible- every OS, most mobile devices, a lot of smart tvs, PS4s, etc. And a lot of things do have keyboard shortcuts that just aren't obvious, like the PS4.
Anyone have experience with this thing? Even at $22.95, it seems like it might be a very useful way to be able to use any old remote with a raspberry pi or kodi or something like that.
Yup, I have five of these. It is THE way to control Kodi via IR. Works great with any old remote without having to deal with remapping keys. Or you can use it with a Harmony and it works fine.
Another thing I love about these is that they can do keyboard combos instead of single key presses. This has allowed me to have a completely remote driven interface for launching emulators because I can program the exit key combos to a keypress. It is very slick.
