Floppies in XP

Whenever I try to save to a floppy in XP it says the floppy needs to be formatted, then when it tries to format it says it format the disk. What do I have to do to use my floppies?

U sure you're using IBM-formatted floppies? Or, have you saved some Mac stuff to them?

Format the floppy and then save whatever you want to it.

BTW, why don't you just burn your backup to a cd? It's far safer and just as easy.

They are IBM floppies and they won't format
It is for a power point presentaion aI am giving tommorrow

there is a possiblility that the floppies are corrupted or the floppy drive is dead as well.

It worked the other day before I put xp on, the floppies are new and 1 was a different brand (4 in all)

The floppy drive head could be out of alignment. After you format a floppy using your box, try it in another comp and see if it can read it.

When I first installed XP my floppy drive was giving weird errors, couldn't be read, etc. Turns out the beta sound card drivers I had installed conflicted with the floppy drive. Removed the drivers and everything worked. So maybe you have some conflict with a driver or something. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to find out. I had to reformat, reinstall XP, test the floppy, install a driver, test the floppy, install another driver, test the floppy, and so on until I found the conflicting culprit.
