Floppy disk stress test?

I'm going to be doing some work with floppy diskettes, and i found several lying around that ive formatted and tested for reading and writing (by dragging files on and off). Is this good enough as far testing to see whether the disk will hold up?

I'm wondering if there are any programs out there that would be able to put the disk through a real stress test to make sure it won't give out in the middle of an important application.

Right click drive letter (usually A: ) in windows explorer, go to TOOLS tab and select error checking. Select "Check Now" and in that boxie you have two selections under "Check disk options" - click the radio button next to "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" and click on "Start". This will find "weak" sectors although it's not a pattern tester.

Why would you be working with floppy disks? I mean, I know some things are old, but what exactly are you doing that relies on the disks being 100% dependable?

With floppies, I always made a backup floppy, sometimes 2. I even made 3 backups for critical stuff, cause you just don't never know when the sucka is going to die on you.

Almost forget..and just because one computer can read read the floppy does not mean that the other computer can read it also.

True that. Nothing is fun about a messed up linux boot disk when you need it the most.
