Floppy Problems

Hello all... I've posted about this a couple of times and have come to a new revelation...

My floppy doesn't like to be installed in my case. Actually, I think the floppy is grounding out or something because when I have the drive cage installed in the case, the floppy don't want to work. If I take th drive cage out of the case, the floppy works fine.

I'm using an Antec case but for the life of me, I can't think of the model number. I do know that it has 3 exposed 5.25 drive bays and I had to pop the face off of the floppy because the face of the case has the stupid little floppy slot in it. Came with a 300 watt PSU that died on me day 1, now I find out the case has been causing my floppy problems afer replacing everything including the mobo in my system. Grrrrr...

Anyone have any ideas on what could be shorting out a floppy drive in an Antec case?

it could be the power...it could be the floppy cable. Why don't you just buy a new floppy? 12 dollars isn't a lot...and you wouldn't have to worry about this problem....and if it is still occuring with the new floppy...then you have something to work with

This is with a new floppy. When I installed the new floppy about a month ago, it worked fine. Then, it went on the blink again. Yesterday, on a whim, I took the drive cage out of the case and tried it. Drive works flawlessly when the cage is not in the case. Mind you, the floppy is still screwed to the drive cage.

When I put the drive cage in the case, the drive will work sometimes and other times it won't work. It seems like the drive is shorting out on a piece of the case, but I can't tell if that is the reason. I don't really even know how that would be, but I was looking for confirmation from other people that this could be a cause...

i'd say it is the floppy drive, dont think its your cable. you got a messed up new floppy drive if you said it was new. SorrY. good luck on trying to fix it though.

Theories on why it's not the floppy itself...

If I disconnect the drive and connect it to my other computer, it works fine.

If I leave the drive in the drive cage, but take the drive cage out of the case itself, the floppy works fine.

The only time I have problems getting the dumb drive to work is when I have it installed in the drive cage and the drive cage installed in the case.

A shot in the dark here, try using some shorter screws to mount the floppy in the cage. Don't know about floppys but I have seen some hard drives killed with to long a screw.

The screw idea was why I decided to take the cage out of the case. If I use any shorter of a screw, the drive doesn't stay in place.

I do have a new idea that I want to try tonight... Since the case doesn't have a place for the actual face plate from the floppy to go, I took the face plate off the floppy. I'm going to see if I can get the floppy to mount with the face plate on. See if that will prevent it from shorting out on the case or whatever it's doing... I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks a lot for all the ideas.
