Hi for everybody,
Has anyone knows about replacement of floppy driver 5.25 with floppy 3.5.
We have an old type Toray Japon made plc which controls a winder and uses a monitor program and a 5.25 inch disk.
How can I update this system to 3.5 inch floopy and a normal pc to monitor the program of the toray plc.

Dear Budman,
Its sipmply like that this bunny must carry this cake always and he must eat when he is hungry.

Conditions:
Bunny can eat tree times a day
Bunny can take the cake down only tree times a day
Bunny must always carry this cake whenever he drops the cake bunny will die
Bunny will die when cake has finish.

Lets improve and lets live the bunny
Bunny must not carry cake
Cake must be inserted in a fix place
Whenever bunny hungry, it goes there and eat the cake
When the cake has finished the owner has replace the cake and feed the bunny with a new one.

So my problem is like that when my 5.25 inch disk is injured my machinary fall down
I m looking a way to change this floppy driver.

As I interpret these words, what Turbomax is trying to say is that he has an important floppy disk drive of the 5.25 in. type (a museum piece) and he has several 5.25 in. data floppies that are important. I think he wants to know how to get the data off of the 5.25 inch drives and on to other media.

That is certainly doable if your computer and OS can handle both.

Dear Corky,
You are right this floppy is very necessary for production.
When this floppy fall down totaly the machinary is stopping.
Dear epsilon Meanwhile please forgive me for my bad english.
Do you have any experience about that kind of replacement. If you interedted I can post to you the cable layout of the 5.25 inch driver.

OK - what you have to have is a machine that has BOTH types of drives. If you can add a 3.5 inch drive to that machine, then it is a simple matter of copy files from one drive to the other.

If the machine has a USB port, then you can use an external 3.5 (USB) drive - or - any other media for which you have a reade/write device. You can even put all the data on a flash memory device such as the Lexar Jumpdrive or any other brand of "thumb" or "pen" drive.

I am not familiar with the Toray drive, but your last note leads me to believe it is connected externally. ???

Yes Dear corky your idea is perfect

but On Toray there is not USB port the microprocessor is Z 80 is made on 1989
There is one 5.25 floppy driver and one external 5.25 driver so is there any convertor from 5.25 to 3.5

I think I can take the file from 5.25 and I will try to modify it on another media.
If you need I can send the layout of the 5.25 flat cable

Dear Soviet,

This system is like that

1ne CPU board and EPROM which keeps the program and system software

2:5.25 inch floppy driver which we create new production program and we keep the program inside this floppy.

3:there is no hard disk media to store the files.

4:Eprom can keep only one program at one time when you need to change program you must install it from 5.25 inch floppy.

5.Input output board

If I am able to to take these files into another media and If m able to send back to EPROm board after modification my problem will finish.

If it's simply the fact that the app can't recognise a 3.5" floppy then do a search via Google for a virtual floppy driver.... You can install a virtual floppy driver that can emulate a 5 1/4 floppy on your hard drive netting better performance, and quick archiving to directory, 3.5, or cd.....

I think everyone here is missing the point. A Z80 processor is not x86 compatible. This is a very old CPU of which many specialty computers and even some consoles were based on (Sega Genesis/Mega Drive). This thing does not run Windows, DOS, or probably even UNIX. It's a PLC machine. The programs are written specifically to run on this type of CPU without an OS or at least a very very basic one that handles input/output only.

We have PLC type machines at work and it's best to contact the manufacturer of the machine instead of asking here. They would be familiar with the architecure of the PLC machine and can help you out. Here is a link to their site. Most people here don't even remember the pre-Windows 3.0 days

I'm glad Corky-G and Nirtomullet were able to help him

I'm not sure, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this guy has the oldest computer on this board. I mean...it wont' even run DOS? :Q Scary.
