Like I said in other threads concerning racism and bigotry... same goals ... different tactics. Different tactics. Same old bigotry, but with using different tactics.

This time, using "the kids". Parents using "the kids" with claims of protecting "the kids". With passing laws of bigotry in the name of bigotry. However, bigots will not have their way, so they are constantly on the prowl for alternate tactics.
This is a test. A test for humanity and a test for society. A test between good and evil. A test for schools and freedom of speech.

One good thing from all of this.... just imagine an America where bigotry rules the day? An America where the bigots have their way in the schools and in the streets. How long would America tolerate this? Not long, I wager.
I know that what is happening in Texas and across America within those red states may seem so insane, so unimaginable, so blatantly wrong, but in the end they will always lose simply because America is a never ending never ceasing nation of diversity. America is the very definition of diversity, thus the bigots will always lose. Oh sure... they can try and they can use new tactics, but they will always fail. Diversity marches forward, while the bigots eventually fade away.
And thus are the laws of nature, which trump the laws of man.

If you have to use words like "divisive" or "subversive" in your bills, or feel the need to try to pass laws to force/compel any type of speech...

You might just be an authoritarian.

Apparently the problem with cancel culture is that we aren’t canceling enough culture.

Not just Florida.

Texas GOP candidate says she’s not comfortable with trans children, complains other kids are not allowed to ‘laugh at them’
Former Spanish teacher Shelley Luther was recorded saying that she’s not “comfortable with the transgenders,” more specifically with “the kids that they brought in my classroom and said that this kid is transgendering into a different sex.”
Luther, a “true Christian conservative Republican [who] has the courage to stand up against the liberal agenda,” sounded frustrated because “I couldn’t have kids laugh at them.”

The Florida state legislator who introduced the “Don’t say gay” bill has added an amendment which would require the school to tell the student’s parents that they’re gay, even if the school knows that by telling the parents that, it could very possibly introduce the kid to abuse, neglect, or abandonment.

Now I feel a challenge coming on: write a speech to be given to incoming students every year, that essentially says, “You’re not allowed to tell us you’re gay, because they’ve banned the word “gay” in schools, but that’s actually okay, because if you did manage to tell us you’re gay without using the word “gay”, we’d be required to rat you out to your parents. So, under no circumstances should you even try to use any version of the word “gay” to tell us you’re gay, for your own protection,” but do it in a manner that is completely adherent to the “Don’t Say Gay” law.

Announce membership in the Log Cabin Republicans?

Nah! ... It’s got “log” right there in the name, still way too gay.

Just torment them. They want us to believe that Pro-Life is not a way to control Women. They love control, it is their favourite.

That's so fucked up. It will absolutely result in some teens committing suicide.
Can I predict exactly how many, when, or how? Nope. But it is predictable.

That really doesn't bother many of the very extreme rights that have taken over the GOP.

fucks these fucks.
These are the same people that feared and clutched their pearls of "sharia law" bullshit under Obama. This shit is disgusting.
God damn I hate these GOP pieces of trash.

I'm never setting foot in that shithole state again (and I realize it's not everyone in Florida).

Yeah, I'm not willingly stepping foot into Texas or Florida any more. If a plane has a layover in Texas not much I can do about it. But I'm not taking any tourism dollars there any more. Plenty of other non-shithole states to travel to.

Many in the "prolife" party would say that would be working as intended and not a side effect. Modern GOP religious fascists are a disgusting bunch.

I think I am starting to understand where the right is going with this.

They need a safe space and they want their own separate but equal spaces. They want to be the slaves their ancestry used to have, that is, they want to be spoon fed and told what to think and how to act by their political masters. It’s why they want to only be exposed to white history, correction, white southern history where women knew their places and men acted like men and syphilis roamed free. They yearn for a time where women didn’t have abortions and died giving birth and babies weren’t aborted and children died at a young age due to things like measles and polio. The good ol’ days where you protected your property or were killed for it.

But it’s mostly for the safe space.

It’s the Christian Fundamentalist State they are striving for. I wonder how they will teach about Pulse? I guess since it impacted gays, it was the divine sacrifice of the heretic culture. I cannot wait for the first parent to object about teaching heterosexuality. Grab your popcorn as this is going to work out as well as the voting restriction laws designed to hit Democrats but seem to also be impacting many Republicons. Imagine that.

The bills are HB 1557 and SB 1834. here is a link to HB 1557 https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/1557/BillText/c1/
and the text is below:

3. A school district may not encourage classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in primary grade levels or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students.

4. A parent of a student may bring an action against a school district to obtain a declaratory judgment that a school district procedure or practice violates this paragraph and seek injunctive relief. A court may award damages and shall award reasonable attorney fees and court costs to a parent who receives declaratory or injunctive relief.

It basically setting up teachers/districts to get sued. A kid ask a question about something gay. The teacher answers the gay question in the classroom. A different kid tells their parents about there day at school and the parents think that isn't "age-appropriate" and sues.

It is certainly a pickle, where formal instruction ends and any old conversation begins.... if they are separable in any meaningful way. Thank you for making me consider this.

I'm thinking that what they are really trying to do is to send marriage equality back to the courts, just as they did for abortion. Abortion, and SS marriage are the top two items on the fundies hit list. And, they are now using "the children" as justification for their plan.
This is not about teaching sex in the schools, this is about a parent asking WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO EXPLAIN MARRIAGE BETWEEN SAME SEX TO MY CHILD? I AM A CHRISTIAN, I BRING MY CHILDREN UP AS CHRISTIAN, SO HOW DARE SS MARRIAGE BE LEGAL FORCING ME THE PARENT TO EXPLAIN SOMETHING TO MY CHILD THAT I NEVER WANTED, NOR MY RELIGION BELIEVES IN?

This is their little way of making a case where SS marriage can be put on hold in the state while the legal complaint head back to the courts, and eventually back to the highest court.
This is really not about schools or sex education, it is all about creating that case where, as with abortion, marriage equality can be challenged in the state. And once that process begins, other states can follow suit by passing the same laws.

This is the new little trick up their selves, claiming it all on "protecting the children". To use "the children" as reason to eventually go after marriage equality itself, because after all.... that is what they want and that is their goal. And for them it doesn't matter that marriage equality is settled law, Roe vs wade was also settled law and that never stopped them.
