More culture war attacks on LGBTQ people and just how clueless the deplorables really are...
"I don't know": Kristi Noem perplexed by increased rates of depression after signing anti-trans bill (msn.com)

Reporter - "There's a statistic circling around right now that 90% of South Dakota's LGBTQ community is diagnosed with either anxiety or depression. Why do you think that is?"

The governor responded: "I don't know. That makes me sad and we should figure it out."

Allow me to to explain.
She is sad because she now has to yell at her staff for not prepping her with a proper scripted response to the question and the "figure it out part" is the elimination of grants to anything related to gathering statistics on LGBTQ mental health.

SCOTUS letting people ignore virtually all laws on the basis of religious belief has some really foreseeable consequences.
Except the Rastafarians. Then again SCOTUS were less political hacks back then.

Oh that's right, Christians only

Yes, get ready for people to be denied housing, utilities shut off, etc due to "religious freedom" as a blank check to deny even the most basic of services to persona non-grata. Really, really dangerous trajectory here.

It’s already happening with foster parents and adoption. Jewish and people of color are being denied because they are not Christians. The States have let these organizations basically run the child foster, adoption and protective services, so they feel they do not need to allow anyone other than Christians to adopt or foster based on their religion. The States are okay with that. Guess there really is no clause in The Constitution regarding the separation of Church and State for children services, therefore, it’s all legal.

fucks these fucks.
These are the same people that feared and clutched their pearls of "sharia law" bullshit under Obama. This shit is disgusting.
God damn I hate these GOP pieces of trash.

I'm never setting foot in that shithole state again (and I realize it's not everyone in Florida).
Yep, now that I'm retired, I don't have to go to the Cape anymore.

Seems like a natural escalation of our political divide.
I agree that it is very dangerous and unwanted, but that would require sanity and we are chalk full of crazy now. As conservatives are canceled, so too do they desire to cancel others.

Abbot and Desantis are in a duel to see which one can out-Trump or out-stupd the other. It's so so transparent.

They've desired to cancel others this whole time, and did a pretty good job of it too. It's not a new trait. They're just extra salty because it's not supposed to happen to them.

This seems ill advised. Not just from a policy perspective in what he's putting forth is monstrous but from a political perspective.

I think there's still an 'ick' factor with trans people among a lot of the population that makes them not want trans people in bathrooms or whatever else and so it's probably safe to demagogue against that. I am not sure people would think similarly about having kids taken from their parents for being trans, requiring people report them to the police, etc. That seems like it carries a significant risk of overreach and causing a backlash the other way.

To be fair, as I discussed with my wife, the way that document is written it really only talks about minors that are undergoing conversion treatments. It doesn't speak about minors simply identifying as trans having to be reported etc. That being said, it's just as horrific and CLEARLY a slippery slope - one that is guaranteed to slide quickly and horribly.

I also think that it's perfectly safe move for him politically. We've seen time and time again how the GOP leaders and their dumb ass followers just make a crack into something like this and then their true colors show (and grow) and it becomes even more horrific of shit show.

I hate these people with the power of a million suns. Ironically, I hate that they hate so much. Their minds are twisted.
