may want to ask slow why he thought this thread was appropriate to pledge his nra allegiance yet again.

I didn't pledge my allegiance, in fact I said I don't agree with some of what they're about, but that they are the lesser of two evils. Then I said I donated to them and joined the 2A Foundation. Then you wished bad things on me in a temper tantrum.

nah, it wasn't a temper tantrum, and my feelings haven't changed, and clearly you posted that to get a rise out of people discussing children getting gunned down, it was a troll move, it was a dick move, and you own it.

well, lets just say I had a discussion with some folks about the honesty of my post and how it's best not to be so 'honest'
and considering how much you love drumpf, I would have figured you're immune to spin

I don't think sifting through all of the warnings they get about dangerous people is an easy task. I'm sad the F.B.I. missed their opportunity to stop this boy but I'm not mad.
You have to consider how many paranoid people file complaints about people who aren't doing anything wrong tying up resources. Then there are people who file false complaints about people they don't like just to be an ass.

So many things going on, however, they admittedly dropped the ball on this guy and now 17 people are dead. Somebody should be looking for a new job any day now.

I believe he was killing disabled people. I'm not really sure that counts (from a violence perspective). But like I said, we are really at the mercy of eachother in this world. A overnight nurse could likely kill every patient on the floor if they were so inclined. We just hope that they are decent enough not to.
He must have been watching Death Race and fallen under its cheap b influence.

Almost had a repeat of this in Fairhaven VT. Kid who had been planning something similar for 2 years spoke highly of the Parkland shooting, told someone in NY he was going to take his turn and it was reported. Cops went and snatched him out of class this past Friday. I think they said he had detailed plans and a hitlist. Governor was on the radio talking about it this morning, happy to say I didn't hear any thoughts and prayers or 'now's not the time' bullshit.

Crazy close call. Could have been worse than Parkland. Massive thanks to whomever contacted the authorities, quite sure you are literally a life saver.

Yikes, yea, I wonder how many of these are stopped at certain points in the planning that we don't hear about.

So the locals took action and didn’t have to wait for the FBI to get involved, Florida take notes please.

Its pretty clear that local and federal law enforcement fucked this whole thing up. They were given plenty of warning, nothing was done. Yet the guns are to blame. Hows about people who want a ban, look up how many murders are done by legally bought guns, then come and tell me a ban will work. The Dems had several years when the controlled everything under Obama, yet they didnt pass a bill. Now they're blaming Repubs. Once again being hypocrites.

Media doing their jobs at out right lying, and distorting facts about guns as usual.

Please link to Democrats having complete control for years! Iirc, it was months, not years.

Good news is republicans now control everything and what have they done to stop the problem, make it easier for people with mental problems to buy guns Great start republicans!

I could buy a gun quite easily, but they seem a bit dangerous. Who needs the hassle? Why do you guys need guns so badly? Is it because your government neglects your poor and the police can't adequately protect your property? Lots of desperate people to fend off? Speaking generally...

I for one am hesitant to support gun bans (especially targeted ones for a particular type of weapon like the AR-15 platform) because I'm concerned it might just redirect would-be mass killers into other weapons which might be worse than doing nothing at all. We've seen mass killers use guns, trucks, bombs, airplanes, anthrax via mail, poison gas, and any number of weapons and we can't ban every single thing which could kill masses of people. Sure it would be helpful if we could snap our fingers and mass shootings with assault rifles disappeared from America, but if the unintended consequence is that mass killers use different tactics the next mass killing might be a few hundred or thousand people rather than a dozen or so. Even if that didn't happen it doesn't help much if shooters just changed from AR-15s to pistols firing rifle cartridges which would be just as dangerous as assault rifles and far more concealable. Or Remington 700 "hunting rifles." Or whatever else. I think it's extremely wishful thinking to believe that banning guns would stop mass killings, hell it might not even slow it down. My hesitation isn't "no, not ever" but considering the last assault weapon ban didn't do much I'm a bit skeptical the next will help much either.

well there you have it. Absolutely no reason to even try. Instead of tax refunds, lets hand out guns or rifles or something as equally awesome. More guns = safer streets, schools, malls, concerts. Preach on, brother.

And people like you are the reason proposed gun bans fail. Can't talk like a civil, rationalized person and actually listen to others concerns, just troll away and ignore whatever they say because you don't want to try.

LOL, it's cute you pretend that it matters how it's brought up. Well, also funny. I've seen it brought forward in every way imaginable and PEOPLE LIKE YOU are unwilling to listen because ultimately it's gonna be "they're coming for all the guns"
It's bullshit and you know it. I could go on and on with civil discourse for days, weeks and PEOPLE LIKE YOU would still say we're too emotional. Yea, see, here's the thing, people are getting slaughtered, men, women, children, slaughtered. So do tell, how does one separate emotion from those actions?
Would your freedoms be trampled if there was a blanket ban on the ar-15? If so, exactly how? You could still by shotguns, handguns, etc. It's just a specific model, would that work?

I tried having a civil, rationalized conversation with you but you never bothered to respond after I responded to your original response to me. It seems you like to pick and choose who and what you respond to and while that's certainly your right, it doesn't help your argument.

I'll be happy to respond to you if you either link your post or IM it to me. Given this thread is almost 1,700 responses long I doubt I'd be able to find the exact conversation you were having with me where I didn't respond.

Here's the conversation:

They aren't illegal to own, you just need the appropriate type of license. Ditto for fully automatic weapons ("machine guns"), explosives, and any other number of things. Almost never is something completely banned with basically no exceptions like during the Assault Weapons Ban.

So an ordinary citizen can get a grenade? No. Sorry. They would have to have a license and the chances of them getting that license is small. For all intents and purposes you cannot own a grenade and it is not just a matter of filling out some paperwork.

So now that we cleared that up, perhaps you can answer the question of why you can't own one.

So I had mentioned in the very post you quoted that you require an appropriate license to own (an FFL Class 3 license I believe) and you confirmed in your response "they would have to have a license." What exactly are you asking me to respond to since we both agree on what's required to legally own something like a grenade?
