GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida has confirmed that former Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach Charlie Weis will be Will Muschamp's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Florida's announcement follows Sunday's confirmation by the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs that Weis would be leaving the team to again join the college ranks. Weis will remain as offensive coordinator of the Chiefs through the postseason.
Following Sunday's regular season-ending loss to the Raiders, Weis said the Florida job will not be a distraction to him as he helps Kansas City prepare for its upcoming wild-card playoff game.
"I will do everything I can to help the Chiefs be successful,'' Weis told reporters Sunday. "I'm working for the Chiefs as long as we can make this work. Now that we're in the tournament, I'm hoping we play until February.
"I've gone through this once before [leaving the New England Patriots' staff to be the coach at Notre Dame], so I have a very good reference on how to separate family business from work. Fortunately, after going through it the last time, I had a very good experience. You go to work, you work all day. You do everything in preparation [for the game] and at the end of the day, if there's something else that has to be done, that's the time you do it."
