Same with Washington State. Perhaps 2/3 of the state tends to be red as hell, but fortunately , the Seattle Metro area is super-blue...with enough population to keep the state blue. (I live in Grays Harbor County which tends to be very red)

Most states are like that. Thats why every election you see that gif where America is like 95% red. They want to argue that dirt votes instead of people.

This is most states, which is why the ‘national divorce’ would be so hard.

I think more regional autonomy, like devolving federal powers to 4-5 regions would be better.

There's no need to become different countries with Federalism.

Here's that same link I've linked before countless times. Still applicable as always.

I don’t agree because I don’t think some sort of victory is going to happen. Better to have a truce.

That being said I suspect that won’t last that long because Republican states rely on money from Democratic states to sustain themselves and will probably quickly realize this.

This idea of making Republicans pay for the consequences of their actions seems to be a logical idea whose time has come, given how under Trump's mysteriously crippling influence, the bulk of the party's faithful are allowing Trump's personally picked nutjobs to run amok with their religiously infected militaristic authoritarian racism. All that while ignoring how their politicians, in their lust for power and the control it gives them are pursuing policies that are to the direct detriment of their own working class constituency and to the exclusive favor of their corporate benefactors.

Their political cadre have convinced their gullible ignorant wards to close the southern border, to despise the heathen commie socialist baby killers, to vote against their own best interests, to elect rabble rousing obstructionists that offer nothing in return for the chance to be their so called patriotic standard bearers in gov't., to let their leaders take away their essential social services that millions of them rely on.

So let their rank and file have what their political apparatchiks have in mind for them while leaving the rest of us to move on into the future where we can make it as prosperous and secure as possible for ourselves. Let those brain-fucked conservatives live with their religiosity, their strict anti-abortion beliefs, automatic rifles and isolationist policies. Let them live without their Social Security, Medicare, college loan forgiveness, cheaper drugs, job creating infrastructure programs, affordable health care and the inherent upward mobility potential that progressive policies are known for.

Go right ahead and fuck around with that for awhile. See what happens. Get what you deserve and live with it.

Yeah I saw that but I didn't get what he meant about 60%

Does it have to pass by 60% to get adopted?
That is my impression. Remember, Ohio tried and failed to ensure minority rule by changing the standard to 60% in a special election earlier this year. That failed there. This was prior to the ballot on reproductive rights, which did pass with 57% voting in favor

Fucking republicans can and will cheat every time they can...

Requiring 60% is the minority rulers gift. In all governmental power.

While I'm generally not a fan of supermajority requirements I think the larger problem is asymmetry in what requires them. Policy changes that Republicans like generally require 51 votes. Policy changes that Democrats like generally require 60. It's ridiculous.

- Certainly does feel like anytime we want to toss the little guy a bone, suddenly we need a 60/40 split. If we want to make life easier for a megacorp though? 50+1 is more than enough.
