There's another Tour thread but this deserves a thread of its own.

Floyd Landis has won the 2006 Tour de France after obliterating Pereiro in the last time trial to get a gain of nearly 1 minute. Since the last stage in Paris is reserved for sprinters and Pereiro got his initial lead intentionally by Floyd so thus will go uncontested, he's locked in for the win.

Congratulations to him. Those who missed out just because someone from last year retired, you've missed one of the best exciting Tours ever, with a new champ that put in a mountain stage performance next to being legendary.

Congrats to him. But, I didn't watch the Tour de France even when Armstrong was racing.

I don't much about cycling, but it appears that his 59 second lead all but assures him a victory.

Nope, he won.

No, there's one stage left.

Yeah really, quit being so cocky OP. Landis was down 8 minutes not to long ago and made almost all of it up in one stage,.. he's not Lance and one fall tomorrow could be the end for him.

Not really. The last stage is for sprinters, who are all hours behind the general classification so there's no threat. None of the top three are going to risk their existing spots anyhow, plus they wouldn't have a chance at time bonuses against true sprinters like McEwen who are eager for a stage win.

Seems like some people need to learn a bit about cycling?

Not as much as others need to learn about when a competition is actually over, now stop trying to make me hope Landis falls just to see you look bad.

two (or 3) he was 8minutes behind the leader. the next day he came back to being only 30 seconds under #1 FWIW

Yeah, but the last stage is quite different from what I hear, and barring an accident Landis shoudln't have a problem.

^The above statement comes from a person who has virtually no knowledge of cycling, other than what he saw on "Breaking Away."

Dude, I know what you're saying but the last stage is 154.5km long and Floyd can still lose. A long break away with him missing the bus and he's out.
Check back to 1989 when LeMond won the final TT and stage to win.

The race is over. It's a long-standing tradition that nobody makes a move on the leader for the last stage, everyone just cruises through paris taking cups of champaign from bystanders.

If the guy in second trys to break away the fans would tear him apart. On top of all that, he and floyd are good friends and he's not going to do that to floyd.

Get up at a reasonable hour. It's been on OLN twice already. Anfd yes he has the race won. The last stage is for sprinters and basically a parade for the rest of the people. WTG Floyd!!!

So we had seven years with a one-balled cancer survivor and now we're going to have a winner who is spending his prize money on a new hip? I love it!

Like everyone said, you're a moron because the race isn't over.

Barring a disaster, Landis has it locked up, but it has nothing to do with sprinters. The last stage is a flat circuit race in Paris; and by custom, the remaining riders all want to finish the race safely. So it's highly unlikely that a contender could make a big break from the peloton.

I like Landis, but how could he stink so badly one day and rebound with such a vengeance the next? It's stuff like that that causes the French to accuse us of doping.

I think the OP just owned a lot of people. Landis has it in the bag, everyone lets the leader win last stage.
