i was gonna hold out until i bought my round trip tickets to miami from baltimore for $116 including all fees, but since that may take awhile, i'd rather let the hot deal family in on this

i saw that to get to vegas, it's $130 each way, so start planning some spur of the moment trips!


(i paid $350 to fly to miami last minute i coulda gone down there 3 times for that amount!)

no deal here... its actually more expensive than it usually is. $99 one way (including taxes) is the best price they have for xcountry. this is not it.

Believe it or not this is Southwest's standard pricing for pretty much all of their destinations. To fly from Chicago ---> Hartford ---> Chicago costs about $79 x 2 (~$176 w/ taxes + fees).

IMHO Southwest is always a hot deal

i did not know that. and the deal is system wide, which means you do not need any special link or coupon. just go to reservation from their main page to spec out tickets

Also, Independence Air @ flyi.com is having a Florida sale, claiming as low as $49 from Dulles and $79 from other markets, one-way. Book before 4/10.

Southwest is the only airline I have ever flown that does not assign you a seat. If you have never flown SW then here's how it works: You are assigned to one of 3 lines (A, B or C) I guess depending upon when u buy your ticket (?). They then allow the A line, B line, etc. to board and sit wherever u want. I am almost 6.5' tall and an aisle seat, exit row is almost a necessity. If you don't mind being treated like cattle and sit in a seat that u are not confortable in then go for it.

I had to travel to DC for work so I had to use SW. If I were travelling for pleasure I would definitely look elswhere.

Just my opinion ...

I'd say most folks on here would rather have a cheaper price. Why pay more money for a 4 or 5 hour flight? I believe Independence air works the same as SW as do many of the low cost carriers flying around Europe. Buying an EasyJet ticket from London to Rome for $30 is great and I couldn't care less where I sit on the plane or the fact I don't have an assigned seat.

Also, your letter (A, B, or C) is dependent on when you print out your tickets. If you get to the airport an hour or two hours early, you'll usually get an A or B ticket which pretty much allows you your choice of seats on the plane. I think SW might have home printing options, too, which might make getting an A ticket far easier if you remember to print it up the night before. I haven't used this feature so I'm not exactly sure how it works.

Actually, to my knowledge the only US carrier that has this "no-reserved" seating is Southwest. Independence Air definitely has reserved seats.

Southwest's A-B-C line works based on "check-in" time. If you don't like getting crammed into the middle seat, or need the exit row, then check in online. This allows you print your boarding pass out at home.... pretty much putting you in the A group.

For people that travel ALOT (I fly about 3-4 times a week) Southwest is nothing short of AMAZING. Their prices can't be beat, even out of Chicago they are always on time, and they don't deal with non-sense. You can rack up free flights faster than any airline (3 points per flight ~ 16 points for a free flight) For anyone who hasn't given them a try, I highly recommend it.


Also, someone above mentioned Independance Air. The only downside with them is that if you need to go somewhere, chances are you'll have to connect in DC at Dulles. Going from say ... Chicago to Vegas .... connecting in Dulles doesn't make much sense They are a great airline for the Washington DC crowd.

For those us who live in Dallas, we are somewhat out of luck! There is this thing called the "Wright and Shelby Amendments," which prohibits Southwest from offering for sale or providing transportation between Dallas Love Field and any point beyond Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Mississippi, and Alabama.

Once, I was told by a friend who used to work in SW Airlines, that if you call the reservation desk and tell them that you are "aware" of the amendments, then are then able to offer you the fares to the other, non-continguous states (through a connection, I presume, from a neighboring state). Can anyone confirm this?

But, this also means, I suppose, that the Internet-only fares ($99 round trip) will never be available from Dallas. What a pity!

If you fly out from Love field in Dallas, Southwest can sell you a one way ticket to let say, HOU, then you go from there to your final destination either through a nonstop or connecting flight. There are a few more aiports you can go to from DAL. This is definitely a hassle but sometimes it works out to be a good deal depending on where you want to go. AA pretty much has a monopoly now at DFW being that airport is not "cripplesd" by the wright ammendment and inflat their prices.

$130 thats alot for a vegas trip. When they have their deals on, you could get them from $39 and up each way. Then again, this is from San Diego, so we are alot closer to vegas than most other areas.

these prices seem normal for southwest. $39 is usually my upper limit for flying from oakland to la. sometimes it hits $29 which is what i like, but hasn't happened as frequently as before.

Definitely. Once the airlines' advance contracts for fuel start expiring...things will skyrocket, like gasoline prices. Some airlines are already hurting because they don't have these advance contracts, yet they can't raise their prices due to the competition.
