I guess I'm a puss too. I'd say don't do it. It's only 8 hours. Just save the money for your company especially if it's between $10k and $3-4k. Your boss will notice. Trust me.

Consider me cheap but I'm not going to spend an extra $6k-7k for only 8 hours even if it's not my own money unless I get to have an orgy with beautiful STD-free women while flying.

It's not an 8 hour flight. The statement was any flight OVER 8 hours is eligible for business class.
SF -> China = ~12 hours

I flew to Asia at least once a year for years in coach. My trip: East TX to CA then to Japan or Korea then to one of the countries in South East Asia. I usually started the trip early on a Saturday and would not get to my destination until late at night on Sunday. You do the math how many hours it took.
I was able to work normally the next day (Monday morning local time) as usual in the US. Yes, it would be different due to the time lag and schedule but to say all fucked up and tired the next day is not true. Maybe I am not a wuss.
I swear environment has an impact on your taste buds. I'm not really a champagne fan myself, but in a very fancy restaurant or when being catered to in first class, it tastes freaking delicious. :hmm:

If someone is paying for it? Sure. But my trips are for my own company = out of my very own pocket => can't justify the huge cost different between coach (1.5K or less) vs. business (5-6K minimum).
The point of my post was you "could" function normally if you flew coach, contrary to your statement of "all fucked up". I and millions of other fliers are doing that for years.

What if you scheduled the flight so you landed early morning monday and you were expected to work in 1-2 hours after landing? I can't sleep comfortably in coach so I would much prefer business class...
Sure, and you could also be fucked up from jet lag because you couldn't get any sleep due to the 4 year olds to your left and right crying for 16 hours. That was my previous experience in INTL coach and I would rather not do THAT again.
Just sayin, why take the chance if someone else is paying for it.
And I understand if it's your own company the decision is different, but that is not the situation for the OP.
That's why you set up your flight to land at your destination at night so you have a least a few hours to unwind. I tried to get some space by moving to sections with empty seats.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to go to business class but I just can't pay the $4K plus (at least) over the coach price.
I have no problem with kids crying because my headphone. Come one, kids can't cry straight for 16 hours. I also tried to move away to empty sections if possible. I haven't been to a jam packed trans-Pacific flight yet.
I just booked a round trip biz class trip to Japan for mid-Jan and it was less than 5k. Ana and united. And I'm further away than you. Where are you seeing 10k?
Oops sorry thought I read you were going to Japan somewhere. I'd blame it on jet lag but I actually got to sleep in biz and keep my clock in tune with reality.
