I have a lot of miles with Delta but never gained status with them because they are not the preferred carrier to most of the cities I travel to for work. I just read this article that (for Delta) really surprised me. They are moving to a 5 tier seating plan"

http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/09/travel/delta-creates-new-fare-classes/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

"A three-way split in the coach question raises the question: "Will these new economy fares be lower than previously, because you're getting less?" asked George Hobica, founder of AirWatchdog.com. "Or will you get less for the same fare?"

Wow. I bet the lowest class fares will remain exactly the same and they'll raise the price on the "normal" seats.

I fly Delta a lot - but F this. If it's 100 less or so, then maybe.

United is changing its way to calculate miles. From now on, the more you pay, the more miles you will earn than the same person that pay less for the ticket even both of you are on the same trip.

fuck delta, their miles are worthless

90k for a domestic ticket when I can get a saver from united for 22.5, or at most 45k.

The "First Class" fare includes "first to board" rights, preflight alcoholic drinks, snacks on flights longer than 250 miles and meals on flights longer than 900 miles.

Are they taking away free alcohol in the air????

The "Delta One" elite first class fare includes access to Delta Sky Clubs, full flat-bed seats on widebody aircraft, in-flight bedding, chef-curated menus, noise-reduction headsets and more.

Wait, so first class doesn't get access to the lounge?

The "Delta Comfort+" coach fare on all flights will include priority boarding and dedicated overhead bin space, alcoholic drinks, premium snacks, premium entertainment, up to 4 more inches of legroom and quilted seat covers.

lol, first class amenities in an economy seat.

On the other hand, 125k delta miles from the US to Europe in business class, with no fuel surcharges. Delta miles are only worthless on their own metal.

It's been a long time since domestic first class got you access to a lounge on any of the legacy carriers. The only one currently doing it is Alaska Airlines.

Salt Lake City?

Born and raised for 20 years in SLC. Flown around the world a couple dozen times, and still, to my surprise, SLC is one of the best airports I've been to.

They are one of the few that I can still smoke INSIDE

The worst is probably Atlanta or O'hare. Those lights at O'hare...I want to have seizures.

They really aren't changing much they are renaming their existing cabins. International flights currently have Business, Economy Comfort and regular Economy. 90% of Domestic flights have First Class, Economy Comfort and regular Economy. 10% of Domestic flights have Business class seating, Economy Comport and Regular Economy. They are changing the names of those but not changing any actual plane configurations, so at most a plane will still only have 3 classes of service.

Delta, the worst airline in the Universe. F them

Well, they have a tenuous grasp on the title. All the other domestic airlines seem to be working feverishly to grab that crown.

I wonder how long it will be before some airline removes a few rows of seats at the back and offers Standing Room tickets (strapped in, of course, to satisfy FAA regs).

Well that's lovely. I fly delta for work because I'm guessing our company has a contract with them or something. I'm willing to bet we will get the cheapest of all economy seats now... aka going to be the worst & most uncomfortable flights ever.

No, they're splitting coach into three sections on most flights:

Basic Economy - my guess this is what Coach is now without the ability to change seats. Whats unclear is if you can change these at all, or if you have to pay a fee like it is now with standard coach seats. These are also going to suck on long-haul international flights if there's no meal service.

Main Cabin - This is what coach is now, maybe lower cost (ha!) flight changes?

Delta Comfort - Economy comfort plus free alcohol

I fly a lot on Delta for work and am hoping we don't get stuck in the basic economy seating. At the very least, I hope my medallion status allows me to change seats if I do. The changes to the mileage accrual next year will really benefit me, I have almost $19k medallion qualification dollars this year but I'll be short of gold by 2 segments since I mostly fly short little flights.

If you are going to be short of gold by 2 segments, take a quick mileage run one day.
Did that on United some years ago. Was going to fall short of premier by some 1,500 miles so I flew from ORD-SNA and back the same day. Planned just enough of a layover to eat lunch at the airport.

I don't think I've ever had a Delta flight without an issue. They're fucking terrible to begin with... and now they're going to be worse?

I have a funny DL story from a couple of weeks ago. I was flying from SAC to ATL adn we had just boarded the (very full) flight. One of the seats failed before pushback so they got on the overhead and asked if anyone would take a voucher to give up their seat for that passenger. Someone volunteers immediately and they do their thing switching people around.

Now that this is done they close the door and prepare for pushback when all of a sudden the cockpit opens up and the captain gets out, chats for awhile and then announces that we cannot fly yet due to a maintenance issue, but DL doesn't have local maintenance crew in SAC, they contract out to SWA, so we have to wait. We wait for 30 minutes or so and the guy comes in. He talks for a bit, walks away and then comes back with caution tape. He tapes over the broken chair, signs off and walks away.

For some ridiculous reason they had to stop all activities for a maint tech to certify that the empty seat was really broken and causes a flight to leave 1 hour late. Who makes these asinine procedures?!

I've had really good luck with Delta compared to American. My only gripe was from the constant delays of their Delta connection flights to my regional home airport. Basically, the flight from ATL to home was always such a short flight that when other flights had equipment failure, they'd give our plane away and delay us 2-4 hours. I was delayed like this at least 10 times in 4 years. It was pretty annoying....in the old days, they would typically comp me a $100-200 voucher when I called or left them feedback online.

When I was single, I almost always gave my seat up when they were giving $400 vouchers away. I didn't have anything to lose and they usually threw in a food voucher for the airport too to sweeten the deal... My understanding is most airlines have tightened their voucher policy. I remember flying out to Colorado on a pre-Christmas snowboarding trip with a friend and taking my stack of vouchers with me. I decided on the trip back to fly home to see my folks and paid with vouchers....then had my friend drive my car back to my place and park it over the holidays. It ended up saving me a long drive and a few days in the car around the holidays. Vouchers can be handy.

It's been almost 15 years since I flew a lot...I flew Delta almost exclusively. They were super-flexible about flight changes, etc. Now I only fly very occasionally but as a North Georgia resident, it's sad to see how far Delta has fallen.
