In addition to the $99 each way, you have to pay $99.xx for security fee, which make the total about $1218 for 2 adults and 2 children, average is about $304 per person, I think it still a good deal, but too bad, the offer is not valid during end of year holiday.

Security and Insurance Surcharge

British Airways has introduced a passenger surcharge on all flights to help recoup some of the costs of additional security and insurance measures which have been taken, in line with government guidelines, since 11 September.

The airline joins more than 124 airlines worldwide who have introduced a security and insurance surcharge since the US attacks.

The surcharge applies, as detailed below, to all tickets issued from 9 November 2001. It applies to all passengers, including children and infants, on both international and domestic flights.

Additional measures that have been introduced since 11 September include extra baggage searches , increased security around aircraft while on the ground and reinforced cockpit doors. The airline's insurance premiums have also gone up significantly.

American Airlines is having an even hotter deal for flights to London, England from New York (with other cities being more expensive). I came across this while looking for a nice and cheap getaway during the holiday break. This is for a 4 day/3 night stay...perfect for the weekend...

For a starting price of $299...you get the flight plus the accomdations. Question is, I don't know when the 299 applies...it's only the lowest it can possibly go, with a Saturday stay required. (most likely will be higher during witner break ).

Package Includes:
Roundtrip economy class airfare to London*
3 nights hotel accommodations at the Thistle Euston Hotel in London*
Continental breakfast daily
Thames sightseeing cruise
2 for 1 dining discount
Hotel service charges and taxes
2,000 AAdvantage Bonus Miles (Plus book online and earn an additional 1,000 AAdvantage Bonus Miles)

List of starting cities:
New York Kennedy, NY (JFK), Newark, NJ (EWR), St. Louis, MO (STL), Raleigh/Durham, NC (RDU), Miami, FL (MIA), Dallas/Fort Worth, TX (DFW), Chicago, O'Hare, IL (ORD), Kansas City, MO (MCI) or Boston, MA (BOS).

These packages are also available at a slightly higher rate from: Boston (BOS) | Miami (MIA) | St. Louis (STL) | Dallas/Ft. Worth (DFW) | Chicago (ORD) | Raleigh/Durham (RDU) | Kansas City, MO (MCI)

<- Even @ $99 was thinking... man that's too long of a plane flight to pay $99 for. They should have pay me/us to sit in those crappy seats for hours on end. I wish!

dman6666 - London, too long? That's a baby flight. I used to live in Sydney and had to fly back for meetings, economy (cheapo employer), to Detroit on United. That's yeoman's work.

Its not too bad of a flight, suck down plenty of the free drinks and sleep, you're there before you know it. Works for me!

It's also a good time to catch up on movies... they continuously show about 10 or so the whole flight.

I'm with RBC....when my parents were stationed in Germany, I'd fly over twice a year to visit. Try the 14-hour flight to Germany in Econocramp, and it's a pain, BUT, who the hell cares? Regular ticket prices for those same trips are around $400-500 alone. I'll bite.

And British Airways ALWAYS has the nicest damned planes, stewardesses (let's not go further into that topic ), and just general all-around nice.

AA? I dunno...I've never had a good experience on American Airlines.....and I've done a lot of travelling (not halfway across the globe like you RBC, but enough to make a definite opinion).

My girlfriend is still in the air right now, flying back from a week trip she took over here to visit me... She has been in the air for about 9 1/2 hours now...

Thanks for the update:
The last time I made the trip, it was 25 hours in a 4 propeller plane with 5 stops for plane fuel.
Coming back was a bit better. Only one stop and nothing but water under us when the plane busted an engine.

Those were the days ... The Berlin wall was not yet built went we went over there...

Who knows, I may take the American deal because I have a 400.00 coupon that I don't know what to do with and it cannot be sold.

i feel RBC pain i goto malaysia a few times and 30hrs cramped in the 747 or the sardine can as its sometimes called is a pain. but many after arriving in Kuala Lumpor after 30hrs of flight time still keep on going to sydney which is like another 8hrs. But at $99 you cant beat that price, plus when your friends say what did you do this past weekend it will make a great story.

Take it and go SOON, the weather starts to go bad Nov - April, now is still pretty nice. ( hey I am from California - we are weak over here).
I lived in a flat near regents park in London for 2 years with my physcotic 1st wife - oh those were the days, HAHA
The flight - hahaha, you guys are wusses - I fly once/month to Jakarta Indonesia, or HoChiMin Vietnam for a couple weeks every month -
I advise window seat and be tired when you get on the plane, and no naps when you get there.
I have logged 850,000+ miles with United Airlines - 90% in economy
woa is me

Oh my......and I thought things were bad taking Stretch DC-8's with my Mom (Icelandic Air....and yes it stops in Iceland both ways). Gad.

PROP-driven planes? Over the Atlantic? I'm terrified One DC-3 to St. Thomas was enough for me (WHAT? WHAT DID YOU SAY? WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU *Plane drops 10 feet, thumps, goes up 15, drops 10*). A rollercoaster's a smooth ride compared to that. GAK.
