Better yet, buy your own MIG. I understand that the Russian's will sell you a used MIG.

<< This company was on one of the morning shows, this morning. They have just announced that they'll be offering a flight for $98,000 that'll bring you into space (over 60 miles up). Their page shows the info. The vehicles they'll use are being built and will piggyback of high altitude jets. From there, they'll launch into space for a brief few minutes, then return to Earth. Technically, this altitude is suborbital, but space just the same. From what I gathered, it's a US company with deep pockets that is taking advantage of Russia's hurting economy. Sounds like they have tons of worldwide interest, even at 98K. They compared it to adventurers willing to pay 50-60K to climb Mt Everest.

If you think about it, there isn't anything more awesome than space. There are many people that are oozing bucks, and this has got their name all over it. It seems like the space program hasn't done anything to progress space travel in decades. Of course the technology has gotten more sophisticated, but nothing has trickled down to change the lives of everday people. Space is as unreachable now as it was 30+ years ago when I witnessed the Apollo 11 moon walk as a boy. I think private industry is just what we need to advance space travel. Let the wealthy fund the R&D for the next generation to do it affordably. Who knows, 30 years from now it might be routine (and cheap) for my kids fly in space.

I guess this is something that the likes of Bill Gates would have at their kid's birthday parties instead of some lame ol' pony rides...

Get Real's comments about the limited viewing out the CONCORDE's windows is absolutly correct, as well as the normal cruising altitude of between 55,000 and 60,000 ft. It is also a relatively small, narrow plane with interior passenger space not much greater than a current model regional jet. That's because everything about it is designed to attain supersonic speed.

My earlier comment was simply to give an alternative and less costly idea about seeing the earth's curvature and flying supersonic than the MIG "Top Gun" for a relativelt brief amount of time. And yes, having also flown it (at someone else's expense), I also agree with Get Real's comment about it being over-rated. But at least he and I can say "Been there - done that", but personally for myself, once was interesting but also enough.

Good, that means that guy's plans are still good to go, hate to see anyone put a damper on his dreams of flying, ..., and crashing ... ?

<<

<< very true.. MiGs r very duriable. i remember seeing a pbs show about the MiGs, and i think they said something about how a MiG can land without its landing gear or something, and after a week of minor repairs, they're ready for flight again.. >>

Does this remove the option of crashing it and asking for insurance to reimburse you?

What the heck kind of insurance can you get on a MiG, anyhow? Allstate? Geico?
>>

Just make sure you dont accidentally call Gekko.
