don't you mean the edge of Earth's atmosphere?

aren't we all technically in space right now, just on Earth, too?

They should offer trips to Afganistan and such where you can actually drop bombs on people.
that would be fun.

I hardly think dropping bombs on innocent people is fun, and how many bombs have we dropped, in respect to the mission accomplished. I don't think it's working.

Can't you buy a used mig for $10k now? Just get the mig and buy MS flight simulator and you can take him up yourself and save a few bucks. Landing is the hard part so you could just eject instead and then collect insurance for your recked plane.

I don't know where people get the impression that the MiGs are somehow less in quality than American planes. MiGs have always dominated in speed , manuverability, and quality to their comparative American fighters. The only aspects American planes had was the advanced tactical and weapons systems built into the planes which were superior to the MiGs. I went to several air shows which featured some MiGs and they pulled the craziest manuvering stunt that NO american fighters could reproduce.

very true.. MiGs r very duriable. i remember seeing a pbs show about the MiGs, and i think they said something about how a MiG can land without its landing gear or something, and after a week of minor repairs, they're ready for flight again..

Does this remove the option of crashing it and asking for insurance to reimburse you?

What the heck kind of insurance can you get on a MiG, anyhow? Allstate? Geico?

migs are definitely good planes, but one has to wonder how much maintenance has been done on them by the cash-strapped russian armed forces...no matter how well the plane was built, it can still break into pieces if not periodically checked

still would be cool to fly though...good thrills for $13k! ha

MiGs are very durable aircrafts. The Russians built most of their military equipment to endure a beating and with very minimal maintence (that way the can drink more vodka!) No offense Ivan.

Who'd have thot? At this rate, edge-of-earth/space travel will be so cheap in about a decade that ANYONE will be able to fly to space. Plus then, there'd probably be a regulating body to make sure Ivan isn't drinking vodka on duty

<< No offense to russians.. but do u really trust a russian plane??? haha >>

The Foxbat is one old plane too! but heck they are offering the MiG21 cheap those were made when my dad was in Junior High! For those on a budget those L-39's are a good value for those who cannot stomach the Mach +2.0

I'd go with the Fulcrum that sucker is guaranteed to make me blackout and vomit! <-- $750 more and I get that video taped :Q

This company was on one of the morning shows, this morning. They have just announced that they'll be offering a flight for $98,000 that'll bring you into space (over 60 miles up). Their page shows the info. The vehicles they'll use are being built and will piggyback of high altitude jets. From there, they'll launch into space for a brief few minutes, then return to Earth. Technically, this altitude is suborbital, but space just the same. From what I gathered, it's a US company with deep pockets that is taking advantage of Russia's hurting economy. Sounds like they have tons of worldwide interest, even at 98K. They compared it to adventurers willing to pay 50-60K to climb Mt Everest.

If you think about it, there isn't anything more awesome than space. There are many people that are oozing bucks, and this has got their name all over it. It seems like the space program hasn't done anything to progress space travel in decades. Of course the technology has gotten more sophisticated, but nothing has trickled down to change the lives of everday people. Space is as unreachable now as it was 30+ years ago when I witnessed the Apollo 11 moon walk as a boy. I think private industry is just what we need to advance space travel. Let the wealthy fund the R&D for the next generation to do it affordably. Who knows, 30 years from now it might be routine (and cheap) for my kids fly in space.
