This company was on one of the morning shows, this morning. They have just announced that they'll be offering a flight for $98,000 that'll bring you into space (over 60 miles up). Their page shows the info. The vehicles they'll use are being built and will piggyback of high altitude jets. From there, they'll launch into space for a brief few minutes, then return to Earth. Technically, this altitude is suborbital, but space just the same. From what I gathered, it's a US company with deep pockets that is taking advantage of Russia's hurting economy. Sounds like they have tons of worldwide interest, even at 98K. They compared it to adventurers willing to pay 50-60K to climb Mt Everest.
If you think about it, there isn't anything more awesome than space. There are many people that are oozing bucks, and this has got their name all over it. It seems like the space program hasn't done anything to progress space travel in decades. Of course the technology has gotten more sophisticated, but nothing has trickled down to change the lives of everday people. Space is as unreachable now as it was 30+ years ago when I witnessed the Apollo 11 moon walk as a boy. I think private industry is just what we need to advance space travel. Let the wealthy fund the R&D for the next generation to do it affordably. Who knows, 30 years from now it might be routine (and cheap) for my kids fly in space.
