This is a business trip but we are going out to eat. Any recommendations?

Where is a nice place to get a drink?

wha? please.

downtown columbus is amazing, a lot of fine eats places down there.

as a college student down there, I haven't had any opportunity to discover the great restaurants... the whole college thing, you know, money, kind of prevents me from trying the places I really want to.

There should be some nice restaurants by the Arena District and the Short North area (on High Street, Short North is marked by a lot of decorative lights over the road).

There's a really high-end restaurant at Easton Town Center, no idea how good it is though.

as far as drinks are concerned, the only "upscale" bar I've been to was a piano bar in Short North. Really nice place, and they have a "band" with two pianos, and they play nearly any request you have, and they are really good. Really lively place as it sounded kind of "meh" to me, but once you start hearing all these tunes you know, and they rock it great, so many people just sing along. Sitting in the area near the band is challenging to hold lengthy conversations, but there's a lot of seating and tables away from the stage. Drinks aren't cheap, but that's pretty much that way everywhere near downtown unless you go North on High Street toward Ohio State.
slums in-between downtown and OSU, but from Down Town to Short North no worries.

check out Cafe Shish Kabab on Bethel Rd for awesome Turkish/Mediterranean cuisine. If you like Indian food, try Indian Oven in downtown Columbus. African Paradise is a great Somalian restaurant, but the atmosphere is so-so.

Downtown Columbus is generally safe. Not much to do around here but its not too bad.

Agreed. Mitchell's steakhouse has some great food. You can also check out the Elevator and German Village for drinks and food. German Village has a nice historic feel to it. Also check out Easton Shopping Center. Lots of good shopping/restaurants there too.

Where are you staying?

Columbus is pretty big.

I'll give you some recommendations once you narrow the area down some.

It's called The Big Bang.

I hate it. I have been there 3 times and it sucked every time.
The singers are horrible and it is jam packed every time.

it's packed, might be better with school out for the summer (besides summer courses, obviously)... but when I was there the singers were actually great. I can't handle terrible singing and yet I didn't have any qualms with the singers. They might have different people on different nights or something.

schidmt's sausage buffet is pretty good if it's a bunch of friends going together. its down in german village
thurmans if you want burgers, big burgers. it was on man vrs food i think.

smith & wollensky's up at easton is a steak joint
mitchells is downtown for another steak place.

if sushi is on the menu, try yoshi's around the tuttle area or the good old standby aki hana on kenny road.

given you're going to eat and drink, i'd go with schidmt's to get loaded up on sausage, then head over to the arena district. there's you've got a pretty much endless choice of bars to cruise through.

if ya'll are buckeye fans, you have to go down to the varsity club on campus. especially if you went to osu. good times there. plus booze is college cheap. like 2-3 bucks a beer cheap.

Columbus is a party town. Hang out by the university the first week of school and you're guaranteed to see drunk topless chicks bar hopping.
