Had a job interview and they want to fly me out to Texas to meet with the people at their office out there. I said no problem, but I forgot 2 days ago my wallet was stolen and I have no ID. They want me to fly out next week, even if I go to the DMV today I won't have a license in my hands for at least 2 weeks. I know with all the security Airports are super strict about identification. Is there anything else I could do? Would a passport be enough? I know even without having an ID one can get a Passport if they get somebody who is a valid citizen to basically vogue, don't know if that would be enough to get me on a plane in So Cal though

A passport will work just fine. Although....are you renting a car there? You will be screwed for that without a license.

A passport would be fine and you can usually get one in 24 hours if you pay the fee for it.

Passport is better than a license

when I flew out of SoCal to Sacramento, I didn't have any form of ID at all.

You just get searched a lot more (no body searches). Just call your airline and see what policies they have.

24 hours?? Are you kidding?

Actually, I just checked the USPO website and I can't find anything about getting a passport rushed.

You can do it in Canada, but it costs almost double the standard fee.

I don't think it is absolutely necessary to show ID to get on a plane, but you get extra security screening.

which airline did you fly?

and about the rental car, I'll just take a taxi no biggie. Now I gotta look into getting a Passport ASAP.

I know for a fact there's a box on the passport form to get it rushed along with an extra fee. As for renting a car, just go to your DMV and get temp papers.

Yep, you can. I didn't go the 24 hr route, but the 1 week one (cheaper and i wasn't in that much of a rush). But you can even do 24hr passports if you're out of the country.... you just need to go to the US embassy in whatever local country you're in, and they can rush you one.

You can put a rush on it and it can take just a few days. It will cost $150 more though for all the overniting.

In So Cal the temp they give you have no longer have a picture of you and say "this is not valid identification" I don't believe they way they use to do it was technically valid identification but at least it had your picture on it. Would I be able to rent a car with this? Not sure why the DMV changed the process but they did. When I got my replacement License a few years back it was just a peice of paper with some printed info and nothing useful.

Yeah, I was going to say don't they issue you a temporary drivers license?

I've had no problems flying with the temp, my temp has a photo though, the only places that gave me a hassle were the casinos in Vegas and funny enough they accepted my expired drivers license that had holes punched all over it (to void it).

There is no legal requirement to have an ID when you fly commercially. You will get the secondary screening though.

I live in the DC area and I have heard of people who have gone down to the passport office and received there passport in 24-hours. However, I think it has to be some kind of emergency situation.

Can't you just get a state issued ID?
In Illinois, I can go into the DMV and get a new license or state ID withing a matter of minutes. What state doesn't have in house capabilities to print out new DL's or ID cards?

That's what I'm wondering. Here it takes literally 5 minutes to get a new license.

I don't understand why he couldn't just get an ID from the DMV like everyone else said.

Also, the "rush" on the passport is NOT 24 hours, unless they changed something in the last 3 weeks. I got my passport recently and even with paying $200 for it (including rush fees) at the post office, it took a week.

Had a friend who got his ID etc. stolen 2 days before he had to leave on a plane. If you SERIOUSLY need it, you can get the Department of Transportation in your state to fax a notarized copy of your DL. He also had his wife fax him a copy of his SS card. He got on the plane, but expect to be searched and questioned extensively.

um...isn't the answer here obvious? call the company back, explain what happened and ask them to postpone the interview or whatever.
