It's not like you really have much control over it in the moment, but the way he landed that spill and rolled was pretty much perfect. That's why he has such minor injuries. I bet he hopes he never has to do it again though.
What's the law for distance and motorcycles? Is it more or less than for cars? Just curious. Would really be surprised if he was following too close by law.

You would be surprised actually. Motorcycles are very visceral and you actually have a crap ton of braking force at your fingertips if you are competent enough to be able to use it. Of course, ABS helps. You also have to consider that the object that fell off the truck was moving at about the same speed as the motorcycle so he had plenty of time to react and avoid if he had tried to do so.
Following distances are about the same as they are for cars. Most motorcycles will stop in about the distance it takes to stop a Corvette. They have excellent brakes and as long as the tires are warmed up and not worn out (these are critical to handling and stopping ability on a motorcycle) they will give very consistent and strong grip.
His bike was fairly new so it should have been plenty capable of safely avoiding that obstacle. As long as he had been riding for more than a mile or so (it is warm pretty much everywhere this time of year) the tires should have been up to operating temperature.
He definitely lucked out in the injury department. I'm glad he wasn't seriously injured.
