I used to have a desire to go but now I know I would regret it from feeling like crap. Sorta like when I used to go to all-you-can-drink-alcohol bars during Spring Break - I wouldn't have any desire to go now that I'm an old fart.

I guess if somebody else paid I might go just to sample several different flavors but if I was paying $50 I'd feel like I needed to eat 5 pounds just to get my money's worth.

I feel the same way. I have $100 gift card for Fogo that has been in my wallet for over a year. I need to use it yet I don't really care to go.

When I was at the one in Chicago they had a large fire pit on the floor and the meat barbecues over the fire.

yep, exactly this way...

I love the cheesy bread! Called pao di quiejo in brazil, and pan de queso in spanish. Yoki makes an excellent pao di quiejo mix. Not as heavy as homemade, but chewy and awesome.

lol...i was.."WTF is cheesy bread"... pão de queijo...

I'm going to go, but not stuff myself as its a 45 minute drive to the sitters and another 45 minute drive home after that.

Went there for a retirement party and I thought it was not that good. Most of the meat was average at best. Some of the meat was good but, I got sick of eating it after a bit.

IMO it would not be worth $50 but, I would probably go again if I got some sort of gift card there. It's hard to have an accurate opinion of a place by only going once.

There are a few other type of brazilian steakhouses here in TX.

Texas De Brazil is another "Fogo" type restaurant. It's been years since I went to Fogo, but I recently went to TDB and it was pretty good. The sides/salad bar had a lot of really tasty items that normally would cost a lot in other restaurants. So that plus a lot of nice cuts of meat and I got my money's worth.

In Chicago there are Fogo de Chão , Brazzaz and Texas De Brazil. I think Fogo is the most most expensive of the bunch, it taste good but I love Brazzaz's salad bar and the grill shrimp and grill pineapple and the Texas De Brazil got excellent lobster soup. I thik ZED251 is the worst I believe.

Wellllll, I'm back.

I would go again in a heartbeat and pay full price. I had two of the house drinks (lime stuff), and they were so good. Salad bar was awesome as well. Then came the meat. I tried the top sirloin, bottom sirloin, filet and lamb. My favorite was the lamb chops and lamb tbone, followed closely by rare filet, then bottom sirloin and top sirloin. I didn't think any of it was too salty, in fact, I salted some of the filet.

It was extremely good food though and no gristle or bad tasting bits at all.

I went there once and afterward the waiter had me order an alcohol drink that had some fruit enzymes in it that helped me get rid of the overly full feeling in my gut. I recommend this drink to anyone going if you over eat.

I am pretty sure it was the papaya drink on the menu: Fogo de Chão Signature Papaya Cream

you didn't try the chimichurri? I found it helps with meat digestion.

The drink is a caipirinha.

The liquor in it is cachaça; distilled from sugar cane juice (so similar to rhum agricole; contrasted with "normal" rum which is distilled from molasses). Legally in the US cachaça had to be sold as "Brazillian rum"; the regulation might have changed very recently though so that it counts as its own category now. (I know some cachaça producers were lobbying for that, and I think they were successful, but can't find anything about it at the moment.) Nonetheless it's probably mixed in with the rums at your local liquor store, if you want to buy some. (I recommend the Leblon brand.)

A caipirinha is just lime, sugar, and cachaça. Simple and delicious and will knock you on your ass if you aren't careful.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed your meal.

I did try a sausage and it was overly spiced. I smoked ribs both beef and pork this past weekend and did not want any more last night.

fair enough. Yes, their sausage is heavily spiced. Love it

love the ribs though. Can't get enough of it.

I had to slow down after the first one because I started getting tipsy. Hadn't eaten since noon and don't normally drink much alcohol.
