Folder - File Structure in XP ?

I am in the process of setting up a new system and I'm getting ready to install all my progies. I have set-up 2x Raptors in Raid 0 (partioned 10 gig OS) the rest of 60GB partition in Raid 0 for All Progies/games. I also have a third drive - (WD 250GB SATA).

I was wondering if I can just create my own folder and file structure on the remaining 60GB partition on Raid 0, and can I install my progries into my folder of choice.

E.G. - Graphics-(for all graphics progies), - Games-(for all game progies), - Toolbox - (All bench, diag. utilities, etc.). - I also will be nesting some folders.

I've heard that some progies will not work if you install them in different folders other than Windows/Program Files?

Also, is it possible to relocate the Windows My Documents folder? I would like to move it to the WD 250gb drive, Is it possible?

Last, but not least - Will it work/be able to run game progies installed on 60GB partition Raid 0, and then have cd images of the games on WD 250GB drive for playing?

I appreciate all of your help, I'm currently burning in my system with Prime95, and I will be installing in about a day. Please let me know if there are any advantages or dis-advantages to the way I'm setting up my system/Folder-File Structure, or any comments or suggestions for improving.

Thanks in advance...

This shouldn't be a problem, just about any modern program should allow you to install to any folder you wish without an issue.

yes, just right click on my docs.. and click the move button on the target tab. Pick any folder you wish.

and I'll let the gamers here handle the other questions (cd images, etc.)

Thanks dnetmhz - There won't be a problem if I move My Documents folder to another drive, and will the default save be in the new location on the other drive after I move the folder?

Thanks dnetmhz.

Is it better to use Power Toys to move My Docs folder, or does it even matter? Also, I think I know the answer, but I'll ask anyway - can I move a progie after I've installed it, or do I have to re-install it if I decide to move it.

When you right-click my docs and change the location it will give you the option of moving at that time.

Programs will have to be reinstalled if their drive letter changes. You can, in XP, take a partition on any drive and map it to a folder rather than a drive letter. In other words you can carve out a partition for "program files" and simply point that "program files" folder on any drive over to the empty partition. You'll have to choose your partition size carfully to avoid either filling it up or having too much wasted space.

Do a search for "folder redirection" in your XP help files. It has everything you need to know.
