folders shared on my windows 7 PC dont show new items

I have my main PC that is hooked up to my TV, and that i use to download videos on. I just recently set one of my folders to be shared across the network, so i can watch it on my other pcs.

Right away it seems to work fine, everything is there and no problems. I then downloaded a new video (the newest episode of sunny) and it does not show up.

This has happened to me before, and i just ended up giving up on it. I really want to find out why this is happening.

Even when i manually try to refresh the folder, nothing new shows up.

The way im setting these folders up to share is:
i right click the folder and go to share with
specific people
and then i add everyone to that list (read only)

What could be causing this?

fyi i think i remember having this problem in vista as well, but not in xp.

Its a torrent, so i have my torrents set up to download like this:
I have them first in d/storage/unfinished
then i have completed torrents moved to d/storage/finished

If the device can be powered off, then when it comes back on, the sharing rule sometimes needs to be re-established.

I restarted all computers on the network. Same results. Its having no problem sharing files that were there when i made the shared folder, but anything after october 1st doesnt show up.

Looking at the permissions, it says "everyone" on files that were there, and the new files does not have that there.

So i think we have found the problem, but how do i set it up so that any file in that folder gets shared with everyone?

I thought sharing in windows 7 was pretty straightforward, but apparently im messing something up.

It may be that the file permissions are carrying over from the folder where they were created. Try this, share D:\storage\unfinished and set the same permissions.

why didnt i think of that! Gonna go try that now, will report back.

Just wondering though, if i move a file into that shared folder on my own, is it gonna be shared? or is it standard practice to have to change it?

Yes, when you copy/move a file manually into the share folder, it should set the permissions you have set up for it. I noticed some programs that you instruct to move files into the shared folder, it would not set the permissions. Maybe the program needs to be run as administrator? I'm not sure.
