I'm crunching for folding@home as we speak. I switched over from SETi. Finished my first WU last night.

How would an AMD K6 233 do on f@h? i have this, and is quite often left on by my mum, but it's not really that good for Seti, my main project, so would it help any for F@H? I connect via cable modem shared via ICS, will it work OK with that?

If it will be worth it, does anyone have a step by step method for installing it and setting it up?

ViperGTS,as to dual cpus: Does Folding@home run on dual processor machines?

Yes, with the console (text-only, no-nonsense) version. The best way to do this now is to install F@H twice in two (or four, however many processors you have) DIFFERENT directories, and run them with the flag "-local". If two copies of F@H run in the same directory, they will interfere with each other, and much badness will occur. You should actually be able to run one graphical F@H and the rest text-only F@H copies, as long as the graphical one is in the default location and the others are in custom locations.

We have been working on a multiple processor version with parallelized code using OpenMP. However, we have discovered that OpenMP parallelized code does not scale very well at all with processor number with our code. So we are investigating other options for parallelization, and a final date for a parallelized version is uncertain at this time.

The FAQ's talk about a P400 taking less than 24 hrs, they give you currently 72hrs to complete a wu. The download is easy, here's the instructions on how to configure it. I did it on 2 comps in less than 10 minutes. What may take a while is getting them to download a wu to you. If their server is busy, it may take a while till they give you one. Once you have it running, just right click on the icon, go to configure and make sure your nickname is entered and for AnandTech, the team # is 198. Bang, you're on your way

Is folding@home limited just by the cpu (like rc5) or by memory (like seti)?
To put it otherwise: I have a p4 and a celeron to run the project on. Which one will be best for folding?

Folding@home depends a lot on the processor.

Also, to configure the CLI, I recently found out, you go to the folder where it is in a command prompt, and type fah2console -config

Way to go, IceCreamMan! Keep on crunching, folks, and we'll get into the top 100 teams yet

Currently we are # 116, with only 656 WU's completed. The leading teams have over 100k WU's, so let's get crunching!!

I was crunching Seti and FaH at the same time, fah wu's were taking way too long, so since we'd won the race with DSLR, I switched entirely to FaH. Crunching alot faster now This race with TECH-IMO is going to take awhile, but looks like a lot of fun

Go TeAm Go!

I just loaded it onto a pII 233, much, much, much slower than my xp. It started a wu at 10pm, still hasn't completed 1% yet :Q

Okay, got the 233 straightened out, looks like it will take about 2 days for a wu. I believe I read that they give you 72hrs per wu. It's damn slow, but a wu crunched for the TeAm is still a wu crunched. Good thing my other comps are flying in comparison

Dudes, I checked out Tech IMO, they don't have many more members than we do, we could catch them easily!

What was wrong? I set up a P2-300 on Saturday and when I came in on Monday morning it hadn't done squat!
(Kinda lets you know how far we've come in 5 years, doesn't it?

Hehe, I had 2 different versions of Seti installed (one of them the flexinstaller), un-installed the CLI version but forgot about the flexinstaller version. It decided to crank up and start working which took most of the cpu cycles and left F@H with nothing . While I was at it, I downloaded the 2.17 beta version and loaded it, since starting it up at 10:55 am, it's done 9/100 of a wu, which works out to about 50hrs for the wu. Hopefully it's just a long one and future wu's will be done quicker

Here's the Link to the 2.17 beta version.

Inguyen, here's the other link, just download the text only version and configure it using "fah2console -config" from the same directory as fah is installed to. This page will take you to newsgroups for fah. You can configure it to run "as a service" so that it always starts up. I've seen the answer about multiple users, give me a min to find it for you linky (this should help)
