Follow up text notification - How to disable a feature in IOS7

Hi. I finally got on the iphone craze after inheriting my wife's Iphone 4s.

How on earth do you disable the follow up notifications of a text message? I like one notification, but not a follow up every 5 minutes. I get enough nagging as it is. This is really annoying and slightly dangerous as I now fiddle with the phone while driving to get the notification to go away.

Does this bother any one else? Am I out of luck?

The phone is not jailbroken, but if it gets rid of this, I would be willing to listen. Can this be turned off on an android phone?

This actually really bothers me, but not for reason that make sense. It always makes me think that whoever texted me couldn't wait a whole 2 minutes or whatever for an answer and texted me again about the same thing. That really annoys me. I've had women text me with something like "Are you busy?" and then 30 seconds later "Oh, you're too busy for me I see!". I thought it was obvious when I didn't respond immediately, I was busy. =( I usually just stop communicating with said women though.

That's nothing, wait until you chat with someone who has iMessage on their Macbook. Spam galore.
