I think it's their nature, not hunger, that cause them to behave that way. I've volunteered for plenty of soup kitchens over the years too. It's easy to tell apart the people who make it a lifestyle and the people who are just down on their luck.

Aye. However, taking away their benefits or reducing their benefits will just make them angry and violent.

Making the claim that it'll force them to get jobs is fucking ignorant LOL.

Hunger is a hell of a motivator.

We've removed the motivation to work.

Those who don't work, don't eat!

Am I right brother?! AMEN! PREACH IT SISTUH AWW YEAH DAS RIGHT I SAID IT. SO?

but wait

you forgot one thing.

those who stir the shit end up nailed to some planks of wood.

oh yeah there's more

those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

Considering humanity's history, are you SURE you want to make that mistake now? Think hard my little brothers and sistas. It won't hurt, I promise.

Can't promise it won't hurt NOT to think though. You on ya own if you want to choose that route.

I don't always choose. But when I do I choose wisely. Choose wisely my friends. DOS XX. Not kool aids.

California welfare is over the top especially with them giving you cash and allowing food stamps to be used in fast food places.

My fiancée signed up for food stamps here in Florida until she can find work. For her and her two kids it's about $460 month I think. In Florida, you are locked into only non-prepared foods and food only. There is a cash-back option which she doesn't use and neither of us believe is right. Many just go to the ATM and cash out their food money to use on whatever.

The sad part is if the state would make her one ex pay his child support properly of $515 a month (with $32,000 in arrears now); she wouldn't have to worry about state aid. The whole thing that dead beat dad's go to jail is bullshit unless they are high wage earners. They even let it slide when he is stopped for driving on a suspended license and usually allow that ticket to be enough to get his license back even though he never makes a payment to her.

The biggest problem though is many people are working cash jobs and playing the system to also get aid and avoiding income taxes at the same time.

How the hell can a family of 4 adults not live off $800 a month for groceries? I spend about 2-300 a month on groceries for 2 adults and a toddler. We eat pretty well...what are these people buying that $800 isn't enough?

Just wait until that toddler is eating more than you. I'm not saying $800 is not enough, but it won't be 2-300 for you forever. My 7-yo has been on a high calorie diet since he was 2. He burns food like there's no tomorrow. He's a very active, bright young man who's mood is very much effected by the quantity and quality of food he eats. He is also sensitive to processed foods (like his old man), and healthier foods cost more money. At this point, he eats as much as I do. It adds up fast. 2 adults, 2 boys, we spend about $400 each month on food. We rarely eat out, due to being tight on cash and lack of selection of restaurants we actually want to go to.

$800 a month for 4 or $200 per person.

I can eat fairly well and healthy for $200 a month for myself.

Beans, rice, flour, some kind of fat and chicken scraps ready to pick up at the depot. Must sign for it, finger printed and present photo ID every time.

Fixed.

It will be fixed when it's EXTREMELY hard to use. The problem will fix itself. Hunger is a hell of a motivator, make it motivate them.

food stamps became fun to use the second they made them an easy credit card swipe. If you don't have the shame of the person behind you not seeing how you are paying for all your overpriced food, naturally you won't care to try and get off of it.

It's a little heavy IMO and I wish that they couldn't use their EBT at convenience stores or any restaurants.

I know we spend more than that monthly, but we have our household items in there too. I don't know what just our food comes out to, but it certainly isn't $600+/mo.

Unfortunately, it seems people have no shame today so I'm not sure that shaming people would work like it should.

I am 100% positive that you can only get cash back from an EBT card only if you get cash benefits in addition to food stamps. IE: If you only get food stamps YOU CANNOT get cash back. And if you do get cash benefits, you can ONLY get cash back up to the amount of your cash benefits. You can NOT get cashback from SNAP. This is the same in every state. Cash benefits is what is colloquially called welfare, and people who get welfare used to get a check for this. Now that almost every state uses cards, the cash is put on the cards or directly deposited into bank accounts to save the state money. The poor typically do not have bank accounts so most get their cash benefits on their cards.

Three states(unless its recently changed) allow SNAP benefits to be used in restaurants.

SNAP works in convenient stores because convenient stores sell unprepared food, and they sell more than junk food. They sell milk, bread, other staples , frozen food, lunchmeat etc. Granted most people are more likely using it to buy junk food. You cannot ban convenient stores since they legitimately sell unprepared foods. The govt would have to ban junk food, but then you'd have to define junk food and come up with a list of banned items under junk food.

Yeah, I see kids in there all the time buying crap with their parents card. Maybe this makes sense in a big city where people regularly shop for these types of items in a convenience store, but around here milk is easily $2 more expensive than going to the grocery store which is no more than 8 blocks in any direction.

Now that you say "unprepared food" it makes me realize that I see the EBT logo at Papa Murphy's pizza which is unprepared.

Papa Murphy's skirts a fine line.

They are as much unprepared as a salad at any fast food restaurant is. Also, funny thing is, IIRC you can buy a salad at Papa Murphys with EBT. You cannot buy a salad at McDonalds/Wendys with EBT. It makes no sense. And thats why IMO Papa Murphy's skirts a fine line. That said I have not looked up the definition of unprepared in the regulations. Unprepared is probably equated with hot in the regulations which allows seemingly prepared items be categorized as unprepared. Still doesn't make much sense that a salad at one restaurant is eligible but a salad at another is not.

She never tried it, but at any POS it comes up with Food or Cash.

Some we have seen definitely get cash back and then use it to purchase their non-approved items.

Do you buy groceries? No milk is dated a month out.

If it is in a carton it can be.

If it is organic, it can be too, and almost always is, as most organic uses UHT pasteurization and is shelf stable at room temperature.

A regular gallon of milk in a plastic jug will have a short shelf life because it doesn't use UHT and it is exposed to light.

A carton? You mean that irradiated stuff?

Paper(cardboard) cartons. 1/2 gallon cartons typically have up to 6 week expiration dates.

UHT pasteurized milk(most organic, any milk stored at room temp, and any milk bought outside NA more or less) is good for up to ~6 months.

I used to by paper cartons all the time. Then I moved to a place that has aldi's and a 1/2 gallon in a paper carton from anywhere is more than a 1 gallon at Aldi's($2.19, was $1.99 until 2 weeks ago).
