oooh, now i get it. you clearly don't understand football, therefore it is boring.

i bet banging chicks is also boring to you, since you obviously don't understand that either.

now this thread makes sense!

(other than the 100% obvious troll attempt)

Try to present a coherent argument. Are you saying it isn't a legitimate strategy in football to run down the clock and intentionally waste time? Be honest.

94% of every game is inactivity. Think about that. What if you watched a 2 hour movie and had to sit through 114 minutes of credits?

To make things worse, the "action" segments are just a guy running with a ball in his hand. Maybe someone tackles him to the ground, so he lands gently on the soft grass while wearing 20 pounds of padding so he doesn't get hurt. Yippee, I'm excited already.

Real men watch boxing, MMA, and wrestling. Heck, even a poker game has more surprises than football.

I can see why it's the most popular sport in a country filled with overweight slobs.

I noticed that no one's yet presented a sound argument against anything I've said. Just a bunch of angry Americans getting their panties in a bunch and slinging unintelligent insults funded by their bottom-of-the-barrel public school education.

Much like European football.

plenty of people have, but since it's clear you are trolling, you are avoiding commenting on them.

I'm rarely bored when watching football. I can't remember the last time I was as tense as I was watching the Saints trying to rally against Seattle near the end of the game a few weeks ago. I guess you have to invest yourself in a team to really get anything out of it though.

Not really. I love to watch just for the game. I don't really cheer for any team other than my beloved Raiders and I don't get to watch them often.

If someone actually gave a "sound argument" would you actually listen?

Football is a lot of different things to a lot of different people. It's one thing to be a sterotypical, drunk obnoxious fan and just cheering wildly when your team "does something good".

It's another thing entirely to appreciate the strategy (or question it) in playcalling, the way a QB can read a defense, how well a team executed a play or how well a defender covered a receiver.

When it comes to pure excitement there certainly is an emotional reaction when a WR gets lit up by a defender that timed his hit well. There's an emotional roller coaster when a back breaks the line, gets through the secondary and is making a 40 yard dash to the end zone only to get caught and pulled down at the 2 yard line. Then you watch that team get stuffed the next three plays and settle for a field goal.

Then there is the whole nail biting aspect of the game when you have a team you are cheering for up or down by a score with a minute left and they either have to march down the field and get a touchdown or execute well on defense and prevent the other team from scoring.

If you have no emotional investment in cheering for a team (or cheering against a team) or if you don't really understand the nuances and strategy invovled in it then I can understand not liking it. It's a very rule heavy game that does have a large number of interruptions.

But to call it "boring" would be disengenuous. It is a highly physcial game, with athletes that make spectacular physcial accomplishments and many decisions early in the game can greatly impact the outcome later on.

one of those had to do with cheating by videotaping opponents practicing, the other with paying bonuses for inflicting injury on the other team(which sounds like something you would be for anyways?)

none of them have to do with match fixing

which is a huge suggested problem with boxing/mma, including some recent high profile bouts

What surprises are there in watching poker exactly? You know everyone's cards, you know what they need to win the hand, and you know the odds of that happening. "Surprise! A guy with a 94% chance of winning won!".

I can understand thinking football is boring if you don't actually understand the sport, same as something like Indy and even NASCAR.

It is clear you are a giant troll though. Medium rare? Really?

Funny, usually in poker people try to keep their cards a secret. Are you sure you aren't thinking of checkers?

Also, the person with the best hand doesn't always win.

so the OP doesn't like football. OK.

I don't like watching sweaty half naked men roll around on the floor. But I don't feel the need to make a thread about it, then attack the people that do like to watch it.

Soccer sucks.

Most people in this world don't agree with you.

Soccer (Football) is the most popular sport on this planet.

If you think it sucks you simply haven't seen quality soccer, and no, that doesn't mean World Cup or MLS.

That's fine, I guess some people like boring sports. Some people like crocheting too.

I guess it would be more legitimate if 90%+ of the game weren't waiting for something else to happen. It's like reality TV when they try to crank up the phony suspense.

You're definitely comparing it to performance arts more than athleticism, but I guess I can understand that.

Aside from getting split poorly on a high/low pot, when does the person with the best hand not win?

My buddy's girlfriend calls UFC 2 men cuddling.

On average, 10-11 minutes are spent actually playing, so call it 1/6th, or 17%, so 83% is inactivity. But yeah, the point remains.

Soccer (Football) is the most popular sport on this planet.

And McDonalds is the most popular restaurant. Doesn't make it the best.

American football takes a ton of resources to get right. Goal posts, special padding, carefully marked fields that are very exact, and to play properly you need tons of weight room equipment to build up whole body muscle mass.

Soccer just needs a field, four posts and a ball. Much easier and cheaper.

When he thinks he doesn't. Unless he has a flush or something that happens in less than 1% of games.

Usually, you have to play several games in a row to be a "winner" not just get lucky with a set of cards.
